Christer A
Thanks CC! I've tried Lifecolor om a B-17 a few years back. Didn't get along with those colors then, mainly due to wrong type thinner used IIRC. I'm happy with the look of Gunze though 😇
Christer A
Right, another weekend and a new preshade Looks much better to my eyes this time. Although, it could be a lot more tight, but we live and we learn don't we?
Christer A
Azure blue courtesy of Xtracrylix: I'm happy with it, but I was having a hard time to get xtracrylix to atomize properly, so it comes out a little thick.Time to move over to Gunze for everything I think.
Biggles87
I might try your dappled pre-shading, I think it will look more realistic than just panel line shading. The azure blue looks great. John
Christer A
Thanks John! I think this kind of preshade is the way to go for this kind of Aircraft. US Naval jets from the 80:s looks just about right for panel line preshade though.
Cookenbacher
Yes, that turned out very nice Christer, this is a fantastic project. At the risk of betraying my love for the Sptfire, are there any more pics of the Draken?
Christer A
Thanks Cookie! Well, I do have painted a little more on the Draken as well... Unfortunately, the color I have for the underside did not agree with me today, so the finish is quite bad. Oh well. 1
Christer A
I've just bought 4 fo the Eduard top cowls, but to my dismay I found the fit was less then stellar, as discussed here: Well, I had a brilliant idea! It's not possible to sand in the front or at the rear, because of all those lovely (well....) rivets and fasterners (more about those later) And to cut it in the middle is a little bit risky, but there is a panelline 6mm from the front... With a razorsaw I cut of along the panel line and then stuck the front part onto the kit again. After that, it was just to sand the big part until decent fit was achieved, and then glue the parts back together again. Naturally, I had to see how it looks under a coat of black UMP A touch of filler, some sanding and new line of rivets and we're good to go! BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE NEEDED! Also, the Dzus fasteners are markedly different on this part compared to the other covers, why Eduard, why? Less than half the price of Ultracast or Barracuda, but not worth it! 4
Cookenbacher
Wow, I didn't know that about the Eduard 1/48 cowl top. You found an elegant solution. The Draken looks great, I love the multi-shade bare metal panels.
Christer A
IMG_20170802_113510 by Christer Andersson, on Flickr Thanks Cookie! My order from Eduard just arrived, and I sort of forgot that the Aussie Eight photo etch set is for TWO kits....so now I have etch for four kits =) But only plastic for one more currently. Oh well, a few more weekend editions won't hurt!
Christer A
Last few days on summer vacatrion and what to do? Reroute all cabling to all the equipment for the home theater? Sounds hard, lets finish up the gunsight for my VIII instead With that done, the canopy was masked off, in turn for primer and pre-shade! UMP black together with some MrPaint RLM65. Not very british I know, but it's the only Mrpaint I had and I was trying to get real close. It seems that the weather is very suitable for painting though, so Mid Stone could come quite soon.
Christer A
First coat of Gunze Mid Stone was laid down Second coat It looks like all preshade disappeared? Funny, I can see it with my naked eye, so I guess there mst be sonething with the camera? Lets test a few settings there Still nog visible enough. hmm Adjusting here and there and what does this setting do? That looks closer to reality! The preshade is still quite subtle, just as I want it. Time to mask it off then! Oh, is anyone interersted in me replaceing all defunct PB-pictures with flickr?
TonyTiger66
Hello Christer, This is the first time that I've seen this type of pre-shade. Really interesting, it's looking good, well done with showing it using different camera settings. I would like to see as many modellers (and more) on as many forums as possible reinstate photographs. This last few weeks 'normal research' has been very difficult; everywhere there is the Photomuppet warning/ransom sign. So much wonderful work is in a mess . Yes, it would be great to see your photographs back . I don't have many threads, but I'll do it too. Have a nice Spitfire weekend TonyT
Christer A
Thanks Tony! I discovered that my stab at painting by the numbers was a little wrong. I followed Eduards instructions instead of trusting the official Pattern A Scheme. When trying to mask that I saw all areas that didn't match so I had to fill in a little more. Now almost everything is Mid Stone I wonder if I should go for red for my Dark Earth preshada. I think it might work. Also, I took half an hour to update all obsolete links. Not that fun to dom, but if it helps... Also, it's probably a good idea to bump old thread and request picture updates. That way one don't have to dom them all in one go! I do have around 300 pictures to add to my 1/24 Tiffy and that will take more than 30min though

Christer A
There will be a follow up to the Luftwaffe scheme later on! But first, this is the way I do masking. Step one, put a suitable piece of Tamiya tape in the right position. Draw on the tape with some kind of marker pen. A thin one preferably... Move the tape to the cutting mat and cut. Never ever cut on the model! I've done that in the past and bad idea doesn't begin to cover it... Put it back Some of the tackiness is removed during this and that is usually a good thing. Then it's just to continue with the rest. Now for the paint. The previous preshade was all but lost,so I added some smoke rings like the tricky Italian desert camouflage! That was fun! Now for the Dark Earth, courtesy of Gunze And some photos of the finished article Hey! Where's that preshade? I can see it with my eyes, but the camera(s) doesn't pick it up! Lets twiddle with a few settings like before then. Ok there it is, but the effect is a little exaggerated. The "truth" is somewhere in between, as always. I just noticed that I made a mistake! The centerlight on the rear fuselage is not present on this machine. D'oh!

Christer A
Time to do the stickers! They're leaning towards the small size arent't they? Just 80% of all the stencils left to do, and just 1 week before competition-time! Maybe I should enter with this too?
Christer A
Right, Lets see if I can kick some life into this one. It would be great to finish it before christmas atleast... I started with plugging the nav-light on the rear fuselage. A bit nervous to do that since it would involve painting on a almost completely decaled kit, but I took a chance. After a few sessions with primer and sanding it started to look OK. Some touch up painting later (and no overspray or decal lifting, Yay!) and I started to do all those tiny stencils that are left. And tiny they are! Eduard, your decal printing skills are very good! I shudder at the thought of that rather alluring ANG F-4C Phantom, probably some 500 stencils on that one! In the end, all stencils on the fuselage and wings got stuck on to their rightful places except one which folded into itself and disappeared forever. But it was done! Now, let's splash some Micro Sol around before we start weathering this beast. Let's see, India 1944, I guess dusty, muddy and sunny?

fewr9fkr9595
True that with cameras not picking up certain paimt effects. Sometimes need to decide if painting for normal ‘in the flesh’ viewing or online photos... Good recovery with the belly light mate 👍🏿
