Post-War Dingo in Malaya

Hello all,

I am converting a 1/48 Tamiya Dingo mk.II into one of these field-modified Dingos.

This Dingo was passed on to Malayan Federation ownership after service with the British army here. The question is, what would have been the likeliest colour used for the exterior? This picture is of one in the army museum having been restored by an auto workshop, so I don't really trust the colour used.

Excellent choice of subject :coolio: I believe that colour it is painted is the colour Malaysian Army vehicles are currently painted.

in early Malayan service if used by the Army it would have been deep bronze green while the Police Field Force Dingos (and other armoured vehicles) were dark blue. I have a picture I took as a young boy in 1967 of a blue Malayan Police Dingo that was still in service, I just can't find it at the moment.

Are you aware of this excellent reference on Daimler vehicles used in Malaya - http://daimler-fighting-vehicles.co.uk/DFV-File%20Part%20Bk%20-%20History%20-%201948-1962%20Malaysia.pdf

You can fit the dog box on the engine deck.

Another Malayan reference at http://www.warwheels.net/images/ACJfinal13.pdf

Thanks, dcrfan. I've got the first article, I think you might have posted it on a local forum years ago. In fact, I'd like to mark my Dingo as 31ZV94 as seen on page 9. I believe it is an Army vehicle, so I will go with bronze green, then, unless you think it may have been a police Dingo in which case I'll finish it in blue.

The armoured car journal is new to me and will be helpful for my future projects.

ytareh, I have posted pictures of what I've done in the WIP sub-forum. You're more than welcome to take a look here, http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234994842-dingo-with-a-difference/ .

31ZV94 is definitely army due to Malayan Army Kris formation patch. Yes I posted link on Malaysian Scale Models site some time ago.

There are few good pictures on line.

AWM photo of Malayan police GMC with added higher armour sides on passenger compartment. See https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/P05001.025/

There is a picture of British Army GMC with original height sides at http://www.nmbva.co.uk/bridgend.htm

Also good picture at http://www.visitselangor.com/muzium-insitu-jugra/ see #5

There was also a Pathe film of what I think was Emergency victory parade with rows and rows of Police GMC driving past but I can't find it at the moment.

There are at online photos of GMC on display in both the police museum and army museum.
