Gray
The Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star was the first jet fighter used operationally by the U.S. Airforce. Designed and built by Lockheed in 1943 and ready for service at the end of WWII. The F80 saw extensive combat in Korea. America's first successful turbojet-powered combat aircraft, it helped usher in the "jet age" in the U.S.
hacker
Good fighter bomber but couldn't handle the migs. Having said that l need to check to see if it did manage to take a bit or two out of some migs.
Ronan71
Apparently the USAF claimed six MiG-15's were downed by F-80s. But of course as soon as the F-86 was available in theatre the F-80s were used only for ground attack.

Gray
Thanks all for leaving a comment. They certainly were outclassed by the Migs. Never heard about them being in Italy though, Steve. Maybe someone else could answer that.
