A decent set of brushes.

Recommended Posts

I didnt see a hairy stick section, apols if Ive missed it, Im a man.

These are what I have, bought them about 20 years ago: Both from Humbrol - a well butchered "0" I think and my old reliable fave Number 2 -

Its not looking pretty is it?

What I could do with is a set that would suit me for 1/48 cockpit detailing through to throwing on washes right up to something big n flat for gloss/varnish coats or general lobbing on of loads of paint nice n flat.

What would you good folk recommend without going mental on the credit card?

Do you have a local branch or the Range? Their artists section will give you lots of options. Red Sable is always a good bet, but it's often down to price.

Have you got 'The Works' near you? They do two sets of 4 brushes each. They're rounds and I find the detail ones [afair : 00, 3/0, 5/0, 10/0] good value at £2 for the set of 4.

If you want some brushes for "keeps" instead of use and chuck, Creative Models do a nice range of Kolinsky Sable brushes in various sizes. They're not cheap, but not exorbitantly priced either (I think a set of 5 is about £13, but don't quote me!) I've used mine over a year, and have looked after them and they're still awesome

These? - http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/paint-brushes/nylon-detail-brush---pack-of-4/5052089006096

Nylon bothers me a bit. Well, in the case of brushes anyway. Narf narf. :)

Struggling to find a set of what Id like in Sable, ie a very very fine, a fine, a medium smallish and maybe a couple of flats. Awesome description, I know... Im thinking Santa needs to find me them in singles unless you can convince me otherwise regards nylon/fake stuff.

I suppose a budget might help - 20 quid is reasonable for everything in my eyes - ex drafty, I know how important pencils/pens are, brushes are similar to me.

Yep. 4 for £2 ... it's worth a punt if nothing else. For detail painting they're quite good, they hold their points well.

Whatever else you do with nylon is your own affair :wicked:

Check out the listings from this seller. Nice quality brushes, good prices.

I looked at those last night, chucked the listing in my watched list thingy. Cheers for the recommendation, helps a lot.

I say, I say - I might check out the chicken ones too. :)
