Gene K
I can't do any better ... . I don't think anyone can!!!! That really (really) is a Masterpiece by a MasterModeller. Great job on restraining yourself on the weathering (that's an in-joke since Giorgio is also an anxious MasterWeatherer) , but IF you wanted to, you could put some very light wear and tear on top of the left splitter and intake since that's where the GIBs and Crew Chiefs, etc walked to get to the rear cockpit. Gene K P.S. Those ultra-fine Canopy Breaker Tools have to be a first in this scale!! Who but you could work a scale detail that small? (OMG)
Spookytooth
Great work Giemme. It all looks wonderful, the little bits of detailing added takes it a step up each time. Simon.
giemme
Unbelievable Giemme! Incredible details and scratch work - just amazing. Cheers Cookie, thank you! You're very kind and I'm glad you like it Lovely model. Thanks Nigel, I really appreciate your comment! I don't think anyone can!!!! That really (really) is a Masterpiece by a MasterModeller. (OMG) Thanks Gene, I'm very happy that you like it After all, this is also your model. Weathering: sounds like a good idea, but I'll have to find some reference pics. As for small scale details: Nigel here, who posted just before you, is someone to look at, for instance (really); and Phantom 61 too, even if he's not posting much. So I got inspired some way looking at their work (plus others here on BM) Great work Giemme. It all looks wonderful, the little bits of detailing added takes it a step up each time. Simon. Cheers mate, thank you! Hope to see you back at the bench soon Ciao
keefr22
so it's really a mere approximation of the real thing A 'mere approximation'?! Rubbish, it's a lovely little model in it's own right Giorgio! jrlx
Hi Giorgio, All the careful detailing of the model is adding a lot to its realism. Brilliant work! It will be a tough job for us all building Phantoms from now on... Cheers Jaime
giemme
Hi Giorgio, All the careful detailing of the model is adding a lot to its realism. Brilliant work! It will be a tough job for us all building Phantoms from now on... Cheers Jaime Thank you Jaime! Small progress made: I finally put the stabilators in place, gluing them in with some Tamiya Green Cap I also found a couple of reference pics for the left vari-ramp and air intake weathering that Gene mentioned in his last post, so I could reproduce it on the model: What I did was to use a lighter mix of the base color to simulate discoloration of the specific area (by brush, sort of stippling it over), then a bit of chipping using Lifecolor Matt Natural Metal. Let's see what I still have to do: place the RBF tags, the canopies, scratch build the chocks and install the whole thing onto the base. Sounds like a bit more of work, but hopefully by the end of this week it should be done ... Comments welcome, as usual Ciao Edited June 8, 2016 by giemme

Booty003
It is very hard to imagine this being in 1/72 - your attention to detail is second to none, an absolute master class in model making. Outstanding work Giemme. Phil

rob85
It's quite simply spectacular giemme. Do close to completion now mate, I look forward to the final result! Rob
Cookenbacher
I love the intake weathering Giemme, I think my next build will use that method instead of chipping to an underneath metal layer. It looks just as good, if not better, and requires one less coat of paint!

Phil Cheers Phil, thank you for commenting Lovely! K Thanks Keith! It's quite simply spectacular giemme. Do close to completion now mate, I look forward to the final result! Rob Thanks Rob, I'm kinda looking forward to completion too, now! I love the intake weathering Giemme, I think my next build will use that method instead of chipping to an underneath metal layer. It looks just as good, if not better, and requires one less coat of paint! Thanks Cookie; I think chipping in the "traditional" way (or with the salt method) is still the best option in 1/48, but for 1/72 the way I did it this time looks good enough. Actually, I think that "discoloring" first the chipped area by brushing on some lighter paint is what makes it look more credible, and I got this idea thinking about the salt chipping technique I used in my Spitfire build. If you remember that, when spraying paint on top of the salt grain, I got those lighter rings just around, so I tried to reproduce them the other way round. Ciao PS: only five to go to get to 1.000 ....
PlaStix
Hi Giemme. I am at a loss for words. I don't think I can find any suitable that would express how stunning I think your modelling skills are to produce your beautiful Phantom. Your attention to detail in everything - construction, detailing, painting and finishing is astounding. An amazing project on all levels. Not far from the finish line now!
