nsmekanik
I 've been surprised by my RLM 02 which is expected to be a greenish grey.. but mine is defenitely green. I don't know if it's normal or a mistake from Life Color.I have a pot of life color and a pot of WEM,and they are an exact match, or as close as you can expect. They both match the chips I have from Merrick's book so I think you are good to go You are doing a bang up job on this one by the way

Deanflyer
The interior of these is definitely a greenish grey, RLM02. It is a nice kit overall, isn't it? Here's what I did with mine, and the cockpit is a pretty good colour match for the one in the Imperial War Museum that I had a look at: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/13416-matchbox-132nd-me-109e/?hl=%2Bdeanflyer+%2Bmatchbox Cheers, Dean

nsmekanik
Sorry for my ignorance, but what means WEM? So I can use my 02 without wondering, happy with that. WEM is White Ensign Models Who produced a line of enamels which are very nice. White Ensign has since closed up shop and their line of paints has been purchased by Sovereign Hobbies and is sold as Colorcoats http://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections Edited February 18, 2016 by nsmekanik
Greif
Quite a long time without posting on this thread... Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to my models in this period. I've started in parallel an Heinkel 177 in 1/48...but I still need to complete this old Lady. Ok, not a big progress in the end... I've completed the instrument panel: mat varnish sprayed, levers installed and finally this assembly took his place in the cockpit. At this moment I realized that I had forgotten to put a drop of gloss varnish on the instruments ... ... ok I will add this directly inside the cockpit. In the meantime I have completed the paint of the aft area of the cockpit and washed it... but, once again, I 've left the wash dry over... Classical "too much euphoria" symptom... once again I will deal with issue later. A week before I have also started to add the rivets line on the fuselage; I was doubtful about it, but in the end I like the result. Before After I managed to find some decals for the engine S/N ; taken from an 1/144 japanese maritime patrol aircraft Hasegawa kit. The leters are not exactly identical to the german WW2 letters, but I'm happy with it. Installed the mounts, to check the engine position... the engine is far too forward: nearly 3 mm and the spinner is not in contact with the fuselage... I had already reduced the compressor diameter, but that's not enough. I need to trim it more. More to come later! Thanks for watching. Greif
Hi modelers! I've been very busy these last two months : family, job, band, etc have kept me far away from modeling... but I've managed to proceed my old 109 these last days... finally the cockpit is finished: I've reworked the aiming sight and installed it, painted the inner canopy with RLM66 and bonded it to the fuselage. For the final display, the central canopy will be left opened of course. I've finish engraving the rivet lines on the wings; I like the result, the wings are not so detailed so it adds a bit of realism. It was then time to check the engine and MG fairings before painting: The MG fairing needed to be shortened a bit because it didn't fit in place well, and I've opened all the molded scoops. I've decided not to respect the history regarding the compressor air intake and fit it to the fairing instead of the fuselage, this is for future easier removal. The engine fairing walls were too thick and chaffed with the engine oil tank, hoses... initially the kit was not intended to have a detailed engine... So I 've sanded the walls until I got a nice clearance and fitting. The MG area will be done after the overall paint... Next step: cockpit masking and priming! Thanks for reading and happy modeling! Cheers Erik

Greif
Hi modellers, lets update this topic! Finally I solved the problem of my non-fitting-DB 603... the oil cooler was chaffing with its cowling I've decided to remove the pipe between the engine's head and the cooler: it solves the problem simply and it's absolutely invisible. At this point it was time for priming: Then the pre-shading follows, using Tamiya NATO black : Then follows a serie of misfortune and deception : I was intending to paint her in nude aluminium... I've used Tamiya flat and then polished aluminium. I don't know if it was due to bad application, error in thinning ... but the result was so rough, glitter and artificial that I 've decided to give up this scheme and reply to the original "5 gelb" version. I sanded the 109 with a very light paper and water to cancel all the roughness of the paint... after this the color was nearly ok ,I mean it was what I was expecting originally .... but at this point my mind had changed definetely to a classic scheme. Next time I'll try with Alclad. So let' s apply RLM 65 ! I need to admit that seeing her with this color really turns me on. I love this result, so my deception is forgotten. Now the old Lady is masked, ready for a coat of RLM 02, followed by RLM 71. Next update, I hope to show her with the first decals on... Thanks for watching and have a nice Week end Cheers Edited June 11, 2016 by Greif
TonyTiger66
Really looking superb now. This kit really does capture the lines of the Emil beautifully. What brand of paint did you use for RLM 65? It looks very nice. Best regards Tony
Greif
Thank you Tony, much appreciated! I use RLM collection from Lifecolor and all basic color from Tamiya. Tonight the Lady has received RLM02; and in this instant I'm doing a bit of chipping. Cheers
Greif
Hi modellers! Time to update this topic. The 109 has received his camouflage and the decals... Of course I had some surprises and issues.... unwanted chipping, fingerprints, problem with the gloss clear.... but after all I love the result, even if I'm still far from the end! Pics !!! (comments are welcomed) I show you only few pictures because I would like to conserve the final surprise effect !!! A good Week end to all and happy modeling. Cheers.

TonyTiger66
That looks absolutely stunning! Love the (Lifecolor?) colours, they look very 'right'. Nice decals, good finish, in fact, just very nice! Best regards Tony
Greif
Thanks Tony! In fact, I use Lifecolor RLM paints. They are easy to airbrush and I like the rendering. For now, I should seal the decals with a gloss coat before applying the Matt coat and oil weathering. I'm a bit nervous regarding the oil wash since it's the first time I will use this technic. I hope to deal correctly and not damage the work done until here. Cheers
Max Headroom
You could always practice your technique on a paint mule to reassure yourself. Doesn't even have to be model, you could practice on plastic card. Trevor
Greif
That's what I was planing, to do a bit of practicing... My doubts are essentially regarding the time ... How long should I leave the oil wash applied before cleaning it; I've seen on internet that some people wait about 20 minutes before starting cleaning, is that correct? My other doubt is : once the wash is finished, how long should I wait before the final matt coat? 4-5 days? I can't wait to finish my Me 109, but I realize that It will require time again. Cheers
Max Headroom
Short answer is I've no idea as I've never used that technique! Sorry Trevor
Greif
Hi modellers, well, let's give a WIP: after 10 months of work I can finally say that the Me 109 is nearly RFI, I consider her at 98% ready. Why only nearly ? Because she still requires some few light weathering here and there, and since I don't want to overdo it, I prefer to have a short break on her, and to come back for the real final touch after a while. I think that after focusing on a model for months it's easy to "get used to it"; a break will help me having a new vision on her. In fact, in the meantime I'll do a Me 109 G6 late version (just for changing!!), kit from Revell still in 1/32. Beautiful kit that has turned my opinion into positive about the German Brand. My intention was to reveal both the Me109 sisters in a unique post in RFI... So I give you appointment in the end of 2016 for this. I'm not completely satisfied with my job in some areas.. but I love the overhaul result, so I 'm really happy with it...it's far beyond what I was expecting from my skills... But I won't leave you without pictures until this moment.... So pictures !!!! Comments are, as always, more than welcome! Enjoy your summer hollydays and see you all in september with an another 109! Cheers. Edited August 6, 2016 by Greif
