demiles
I think this a very disturbing move by Russia as the only aircraft in the area either belong to them or are NATO and Coalition force planes.
hacker
The last time any SAMs where deployed the Isrealis make quick work of them. Everyone deploys these things as a precautionary measure but with the Russians you never know what their true end game plan is. It could also be a response to the shooting down incident with Turkey . No one really knows but the Russians and the Syrians.

fatfingers
That sam launcher is a bit of a beast! I'm suprised to see that the Russians are using Iveco vehicles. Always thought they bought home grown designs? Regards Steve

Nigel Foster60
I have to say when the Russians said they were deploying this missile I was very surprised as I struggle to find the purpose. I knew it was long range but 250 miles! From a military point of view I cannot understand how this makes sense. It is in some way a reply to Tuesdays events? If it is ever used on western (Nato) or Israeli aircraft I would have thought the counter measures would be very direct. Resupply of rockets would have to go past Cyprus. I cannot make it add up from a military point of view. Does anyone have any Ideas that make credible militay logic? Nigel

bentwaters81tfw
I hope all airlines are revising their route plans for the area It's not just there, when I went to Uzbek this year, the route was Poland, Belarus (Minsk), Russia, (Nizhniy Novgorod - Samara - Astrakhan), Khazakhstan. The direct route goes over Ukraine (Donetsk). We stayed well out of the way.
Mike
In light of discussions lately regarding politics in threads, I'd respectfully request that NO politics are discussed in this thread. It's a contentious and difficult time in this area, but there are PLENTY of places you can engage in no-holds-barred political debates. Britmodeller is NOT however one of these places.
Paul J
If the letters 'MP' are Russian cyrrilic letters then, translated they would actually be HR if I am not mistaking. But could be wrong.
harvy5
This the S-400 on MAZ, variant of S-400 launchers called 5П85СЕ2 on MAZ chassis. Check your facts first I do not know where you draw information, but I'm from my experience. I have long worked in the Slovak FA, and include also the S-300th So I had the opportunity to study documentation. Already in 1997, when RF offers Slovak modernized system S-300PMU-2, there was a variation on the trailer. Stated that this is due to reduced dependence on Bielorusku.MAZ is Minsk automobile plant. Launchers S-300 and S-400 have a similar shape, but they are not identical.Missiles system S-400 is only on trailers. It is different with radar. Sometimes may still use that old chassis MAZ 534.But are already in use chassis MZKT which are Russian-made.This is only a basic which everyone finds on the Internet. And another important thing is that I made for a friend master models MZKT and BAZ-7930 and had access to factory-documentation. Friend has a company to trade in military equipment, tanks, aircraft, etc. So the fact a little .... I also worked in gray areas, so some information I have... RichardPrice
If my post was considered political and several others in this thread are not, then I'm done with this website. I can see at least three existing posts which have more obvious political content than mine - why are you trying to polarise the discussion?
