Hello Everyone,

After seeing Wills and Blastvader's builds, I have been inspired to start my own kit. This is a model I have had in mind for a while. I was doing a lot of planning for it, which I have now decided to throw out the window and just wing it. So what I am going to aim for is a suped-up GM or a Gundam not sure yet from the Flag of Titans/Advance of Z series, this series is quite popular with Gunpla fans the world over. In the Gundam series, this takes place right after the events in Zeta Gundam. Most of the main mecha in it are named from characters from Watership Down series. Most of the main characters mecha is a deep purple which I might go with, or maybe a mixture with red/black. The main idea was to make a variant/custom of the RGM-79Q "Quel"... see below.

22953514819_0bc51199f1_b.jpg

This is the base model that eventually "evolves" into the TR-6 Gundams and so forth. Love the colours on this, but I don't think I will be copying them. See the little Hazel logo? I like this model and I don't, I don't own it neither (I know...shocking for me). So lets see what we have to work with...

23025595260_5b7920ac0e_b.jpg

This is the kit I am going to base the model from, I will keep the guns on the back, however I do not like how far they stick out when in the firing posisition. This is the first Gunpla that Fumina Hoshino fights with in Gundam Try Fighters, a cool but weird show, it's on youtube for free (legally) if anyone wants to watch it? The shields coming from the back is a Gundam Thunderbolt idea, the guns on the arms is from NT-1 Alex (War in the Pocket) the guns on the back is from any Guncannon/Freedom/F-91/7th Gundam... you get the idea and the powered bit is from 0083 : Stardust Memory. I do not intend to keep all of the items on this model, the hand held gun is the first thing to go, possibly the shoulder armour, the sideskirts too.

23238818101_2cc7d66a65_b.jpg

This is the "normal" GM from 0083 : Stardust Memory, I doubt I will use much from this model. The rifle will be getting used, possibly the shield too. Maybe the shoulder pads too. We will see what comes of this, There are various other bits I can steal, we will see... who knows I might even make two Custom models.

23213091272_8a41673b9c_b.jpg

This is the first Gundam that is designed from the Quel, I might use the shield you see, it's actually a booster that doubles up as a shield. I might steal the legs as well and put the extra thrusters on... like I said, I am going to wing it... I do like the red finger tips tho, that will be taken over, maybe the powerpacks for the gun too.

22693034014_d24a9c88c7_b.jpg

I spoke to will about these in his Guncannon build, I got these decals from China, cost about £5 each... the print quality isn't all that. Look at how bad the little Hazels are, god job I will not be using them. I got the warning stickers and the Titans Test Team logos, that is what I wanted really.

23025589210_b7e63513e1_b.jpg

These are the offical Bandai GunPla decals, I have not been able to find these for a while. For the Gundam above, I would use the top left ones, but as I have another one of the RX-121-1 I will not be using them. Well not all of them anyhow. Notice the way I have tried to keep the decal sheet together Will? :P

22693032864_60405060b0_b.jpg

Stickers that came with the original Hazel RX-121-2... highly doubt I will use any of these at all. The decals under it are for the Hi-Nu RX-93 Gundam.

23295276896_450b305b1d_b.jpg

Got this a while ago for... well because I could. Not really had any idea if I can use them or not, but I might put it on the back of the GM... who knows. Love the shield for this one tho. Notice the Gundam Mk.II Titans version ;)

23295275306_3e1193975b_b.jpg

Inside the instructions, gives you a better idea of what I have got to work with. I know it wont be staying those colours tho.

23213084052_2d77302b93_b.jpg

The Plastic bits I have got to play with... yay.

23025582000_809b171ec2_b.jpg

Shameless plug for the Hazel I built, this is the kind of colours I am going for. However I will be painting this one a lot better... who knows, I might even weather it... or completely brake it... hhmm..

22953482929_88390b128a_b.jpg

23295286446_3eaf9fda53_b.jpg

This is what I have started with, I have decided to build the GM up and then consider where I can go from there. Slow and steady, I can't bodge this one up surely?? Dont like the antenna coming from the back, the thrusters I do not like neither, I am not too keen on the access hatch neither.

23321376465_326c64a70b_b.jpg

This is where I was as of Tuesday night, the gun arms look ott compared to the rest, might armor them up a bit. I like the beam sabres ontop of the sholder pads however the actual sholder pads I do not like. The head is something I might replace with the Gundam head, not sure yet... lets see where this ride takes us..

Suggestions are most welcome...

Kind Regards,

Dazz

Go for it, Build it the way you want to, and ENJOY yourself!

Thank you Pete, I will enjoy this build. :)

Love the sound of this project, will be following with interest Dazz.

And i think gun arms look good, gives it a nice chunky robot feel and nott ott for me

Thank you Hunter, glad I have gotten your attention, would be nice to have another mecha-heads opinion on this. :)

The gun arms I wasn't so sure on, but I had a play with the Cardigan last night. Lets see how bad it's gotten shall we? :P When I speak of another Gundam I will link it to a wikia page if you want to know a little more?

23237881382_0b7ece93b9_b.jpg

Here are the legs, finally made up. I really really hate making the legs, I dont know why, it is just one of my pet hates with Gunpla... They do look a bit clunky to me and I'm not happy with the massive gap between the leg and the thruster.

23320104826_e0e8bb63ab_b.jpg

First mod for the Cardigan, opening up the skirt... oo-er missus... can I get away with saying that when I am typing this out in a school?? who knows or cares?! :P So the bit in the middle between the two bigger circles can be cut away so the skirt can move independantly, like below. A simple mod but one that give it just that little bit more. The inside of the skirts will be filled in or covered, not too sure yet.

23346226875_4abf9babcb_b.jpg

23320102076_7a581542f0_b.jpg

Here is the body all built up, really reminds me of Spartan-117 or the Master Chief from the Halo series... strange. I have left the hands off for the time being, they will be safe until I need them.

22719073023_2f878ee300_b.jpg

The two shoulder pack guns, they do not look too bad now that I see them. Thinking of maybe sticking these two together to make a twin buster rifle like the Wing Zero has. Maybe extend the barrels a bit... lets see what else I can dig out.

23263641981_62fc66458d_b.jpg

The gun fitted on the back, in this position they are wrong for this model. The place they are attached is for the shields, these guns go in the hole above the thrusters. The gaping holes in the shoulder/sabre holders will be filled in also. Like this it does remind me of the Jesta or Guncannon a bit. As they are below, I dont actually mind them. But fully extended into the firing position, I just think they look silly. So I decided to play with some of the other bits I have got. :)

22719069003_41946565fc_b.jpg

Done a few modifications this time. First of all, I took the antenna from the Tallgeese II I have unfinished and slapped it on. Gives it a sorta punk-ish look, my other half liked it. It is just held in place with white-tack for the moment. The finished article will have no gaps. The next one which might be obvious is the feet, these where taken from the RX-121-1 Hazel Custom as where the side skirts, the power packs (ammo reloads) and the shield on the other side. The head you can see on the floor is from the Hazel Custom too. The feet where too big to fit in there nicely, so either a little work will be needed or I will need to scrap them all together. The shield you can see is from the GM Custom kit I showed at the start of this thread.

23263644521_64185f9f79_b.jpg

Rear view of the Cardigan, here you can see the shield and the fact it is very back heavy... might be why the guns stick out so much to the front??

23050434210_0c7427c877_b.jpg

Wondered if the Hazel Gundam head would look good on this, not too bad. The problem with using a Gundam head would be the fact the Cardigan would go from a GM to a Gundam. I really want it to be a suped up GM, but I do like the sensors on the Gundam head... hhmm... maybe on another one.

23320080856_144d2e6cfc_b.jpg

While deciding that I didn't like the feet, I remembered that I had an old Gundam Mk.II sitting around that I was going to experiment on with weathering. This one is going to be weathered anyhow, so two birds with one stone. I also prefer the feet from the Mk.II also, however they are of different connector types. I will see if this can be resolved. The feet are the ones in the back right of the picture with red soles. Anyhow the main point in this picture, the beam rifle is from the FXA-05D G-Defenser, which I do want to keep untouched but I started to play around with bits. The two blue pods are from the same model, think this is a little OTT, but it's a good way to bounce ideas around.

22717834854_d1a875c795_b.jpg

See what I mean by OTT?

22978267319_49684c7a57_b.jpg

This is the shield from the Gundam Mk.II, the two tubes from the bottom are both guns/beam swords from the S-Gundam one of my fav Gundams and just like Advance of Zeta a novel only, the S-Gundam is also cool for having an AI control it. I have got a boosted version of it to make... but thats a project for another day.

22719046673_f7ed65bec8_b.jpg

Here we have a selection of heads, from left to right we have the Hazel, the Gundam MK.II and the Cardigan. The Cardigan one is growing on me, I might paint it up and see where I stand with it then. I have to find the cover bit for the Mk.II there should be a red bit in the middle of the "V".

23320107566_0fd8a0881d_b.jpg

The 3 weapons I had to pick from thus far, the bottom one is from the MK.II and uses a powerpack like the Cardigan has on it now, so result there. The middle one is from the GM Custom and reminds me of an SA-80 alot, but the powerpacks on the sideskirts would be out of place. The top one is just your normal bazooka they use, not even sure if it is a hyper-bazooka... hhmm... so far the bottom one is winning and the hand from the MK.II as well.

Since doing this lot last night, I have ordered some bits from Australia... Gundam PE! This should be interesting to use, when it gets here and assuming there isn't any live spiders in the parcel waiting to kill me! I have also order the entire set of Gundam Builder Series of bits from HLJ on their Black Friday deal, result there and I also got a Quel! So I am now the owner of a Quel and a Full Armor Gundam 7th as well as a Full Cloth Crossbone. :) I'm a happy Otaku ;)

Haha, another vote for the GM head. ;)

The G-defenser pods are cool but also look too back heavy. I'm gonna check my sources and see what kind of pods others have used. I got something in mind ;)

Looking good Dazz I too love a chunky mech. Though I'd like to speak out in favour of one of the Gundam heads as opposed to the Cardigan head (though that might be the fact that I don't like the Tallgeese).

I've got to admire your creativity also. I'm rubbish at thus sort of stuff. I struggle to think of custom colour schemes never mind owt else.

Thank you blastvader for the kind words. If I'm really honest this is the first time I have ever attempted anything like this before. I've been keeping an eye on Gundamguys blog and I got a lot of the obscure gundam books with the MSVs in them. So I've been influenced quite a lot, I'm also building this for me to push myself. Give it a go, see what you can make, what are you gonna loose? I have raided my gunpla stuff, I've found something that will fit the ott criteria and will look insane :) I liked the Tallgeese II, esp the scene with Traize holding the gun ontop of the carrier.

I found a really cool paint scheme for a Guncannon in my Traitor of Destiny books. I'll have to get a picture later. :)

Dazz

I had some free time over the weekend, so I decided to butcher the Cardigan a bit. I'll show the pictures and then say a little about it.

22790496504_fb92beb0e5_b.jpg

This is a complete mash-up of Gundam parts, the first thing one might notice is the Hazel's feet. Nothing new there, then working up the body (calm down) we have the MMI-M15 "Xiphas" Rail Cannons from the Freedom Gundam. The head is from the Justice Gundam. The two green arm things are from the ORX-005 Gaplant, they are it's moveable shields/boosters/beam rifles. The thing on the back is the booster from behind the Gaplants head, you can see the same below too. Those boosters do retract into each other.

23392695276_edcff6715a_b.jpg

22791686713_bdc4720cb1_b.jpg

Then I tried the same with the Gaplants head, not too sure if it works or not. Then I found some spare beam rifles from the S-Gundam kit. Gave it a go... not really too sure tbh, I prefer the dual ones you see on the bottom on some shields like the Thunderbolt Gundam (still got to make that actually). Not too sure if the head works really, and the thrusters I would rather have mounted onto the shoulder pads, not the backpack. Below you can see the head better.

23336296461_6436948267_b.jpg

Incase you couldn't guess, the head is a Zeon type, only held on with white-tac too.

23050877729_18009f3323_b.jpg

I decided to try the Justice Gundams flyer, doesn't look too bad really, I think the next port of call will be to try Freedoms "wings. Don't think I will be able to get the wings down correctly tho... more fun and games me thinks. I might just raid my S-Gundam entirely... that will be insane... hhmm...

23418872735_a8b2a2ed20_b.jpg

The journey/bodge job contines...

No sandwiches here, only beer and kebabs! :D

Thank you both for the words of encouragement. :) I have placed an order with HLJ, I'm paying £45 for shipping alone :( hopefully they'll arrive soon, I've decided to make the other GM too. One a fire-support and the other... Well just bonkers. :)

Wow, lots of different bits to play with there. I like it a lot more now that you've taken the forearm armour blocks off, I think they were a lump too far!

The Build Fighters kits are cool aren't they, they seem like a sneaky way to re-use old moulds but Bandai give you a lot of extra goodies in each one and they end up looking rather different. I like the encouragement to mess around and redesign things too.

I have a lot of Gunpla sitting around waiting to be butchered for this project, WIll. ;) The 90mm Gatlings arm things where not a winner with me. Far too chunky, I think only the NT-1 Alex should have them, atho Alex doesn't have them in little pods... hhmm...

The build fighter kits are really cool, I love how Bandai are promoting the whole "build it your way, have fun" kinda idea. They have released a load of "extra" to modify the Gundams with, quite a lot of them I will be getting soon. I have the Gundam Mk.II you see in Build Fighters to make yet. Not sure if that will survive modifying or not. I won an ebay auction the other day, Strike Freedom, Destiny and Wing Zero Gundams. Lets see if I can steal anything from them, the Wing Zero's Twin Buster Rifle is the first. ;)

I'm gonna have to scratch build an optical sensor tho... that'll be fun.

Kind Regards,

Dazz

Had a little play again last night while I was sorting out my Firestorm Armada fleet.

22885305133_ee1b155cba_b.jpg

So this is the idea I am going to work with for this one, the twin rifles on the side where just me messing around. Think I am gonna mount them on the shoulder pads like the CGue DEEP Arms, maybe fluff them out a little bit too. I really do like the G-Defenser on the back but with the shoulder pads/guns they just wouldn't fit, unless I extend the boosters. The shield I am really liking too, the left hand rifle is a freebie I got from HLJ once. It's holding the Mk.II's beam rifle, which I am now starting to favour. Like I said earlier, I will be mounting the guns on the arms of this one, so those shoulder pads will go, the head will stay as it is, it's finally won me over. I've seen a Nemo with a G-Defenser on it, sorta AWAC style... I am really really liking that one atm. Might do that and take the rail guns off and put the powerpacks back on the side skirts. This one, or now that I think about it, use the other GM I have with the support stuff (the G-Defenser and sensor stuff), have the Cardigan as a close in brawler (GM II Striker kinda), and the Quel as a Deep Striker with massive OTT guns and rocket pods and stuff... I'll have to see what I get from HLJ (I've kinda forgot) then form a plan better. So the plan from here is to build the GM I have.

NICE! Now that guy looks like he means business :)

If you like this Hunter, you'll like the idea I had at work. Let's just say, it involves a part from an SU-100 (the Russian tank destroyer) at 1/35 scale. ;) oh also a M134 Minigun at 1/35 scale too ;) my S-Gundam [bst] is getting sacrificed as well. :)

You had me at su-100...

Cool im guessing the big barrel?? All sounds good, i mean who doesn't love a minigun?

Really love the fluid way this is all coming together.

Aye, you are indeed correct with the barrel. Kinda worried about the weight, hence me raiding the S-Gundam... All will make sense.

Thank you, Hunter for the kind words. Atm it's mainly just adding bits to see what works. I've been watching Try Fighters again, getting some ideas :)

So I get home last night, and I have an... well a receipt in the post from FedEx "here we go" I say as I am rolling my eyes. For a start the package is still listed as being in Paris (as of now), so I was fearing the worse. Nope, it turns out the driver had written on the back of the receipt saying my delivery was next door. Result! So I get it in my house, it's a big bleeder...

23522149671_dbecd78f3d_b.jpg

Please excuse the messy table, but notice the banana for scale. ;) So lets see what the lovely people at FedEx have brought me... it was a heavy bugger at 17 kgs! :/

23495976312_9648ee3d69_b.jpg

First we have these three magazines, I really couldn't resist the scantly clad ladies on the covers... who doesn't love a bunnygirl? ;) Turns out, they are modelling the pinup from various periods. I couldn't read much more than that.

22976363494_2e6abfb322_b.jpg

The Full Armour Gundam 7th, got this one because I love the colour on it and the shield. I will be building this one OOB but might mess around with the colours a bit.

22976360834_1eba2e7bc6_b.jpg

Crossbone Gundam X1 FUll Cloth from Gundam Build Fighters Try (really good/fun show). Love the pirate theme on this one, I also have the proper X1 to build at a later date. Still waiting for a HG version of the X2 and X3. This one will most likely be OOB too, not a big fan of the crossbow gun tho. :/

23522132861_2bfffe8778_b.jpg

RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Banshee Norn, I love the Unicorn Gundam series. I have the Unicorn already build (both Unicorn and Destroy modes), but I haven't really done much to them. I might kitbash them as well... or maybe not, I really do like the Banshee.

23522134971_68f7f41cac_b.jpg

I got my Quel!!! This one will be added to the kitbashing project as well. Not too sure what I will do with this one tho. We will see... Next onto the other bits I got...

22976365734_bb0ca86110_b.jpg

Gundam GP base... because... well why not? Plus it was cheap, about £3 iirc.

23308844840_b43e36c4d3_b.jpg

The Ez-ARMS kit, these weapons arr the ones that Team SRSC use to modify their Ez-8's in the show with. Shame the big Radome head isn't included.

23578483376_757ce49f71_b.jpg

Who doesn't love a big sod off Gatling Cannon? ;)

23522139831_e6621026cd_b.jpg

This is the set that the GM Cardigan gets, however in the proper boxing you do not get the 4 barrel gatlings or the missile, plus there is no option to have a second set of weapons come out from the hips. Always bits I can use tho, the arms will come in handy as well. :)

The rest of the stuff is all little the GunPla build series of parts you can buy except for the sensor dish, I think I might have to scratch build my own one, or try and modify the one I have on my EX-S... we will see. I should have enough to get one or maybe two of these done now :)

23578473386_edf79ef03f_b.jpg

23495957752_a26ddbd653_b.jpg

Lots of goodies there for me to play with :) The swords I have earmarked for the close in striker, missile pods for the support type. Not to sure on the rest... I also got a few magazines as well, only because they came with various bits.

22976376944_983f87d1c1_b.jpg

23308854060_7b1bb1d248_b.jpg

23578489496_a633b810ed_b.jpg

Just liked the design of the shield, not sure about the bird (torii in Japanese I believe??)... My left hand looks really fat in this picture... :/

22976373124_c8f15c3294_b.jpg

Look at the gun on that brute! Seems way OTT for me tho.

23495970272_2bf089e58a_b.jpg

BANSHEE HEAD! Yay... this will be used to display the Banshee earlier :)

So as you can see, I have a few new bits to play with, I have decided to use the thruster shields from the Hazels, might have to buy another Advanced Hazel. This will give me enough to play with and hopefully crack on with the Cardigan or Custom GM... dunno which yet.

Kind Regards,

Christ Dazz! That's quite the delivery. How did you get that past customs?

With lots of money and doughnuts ;) FedEx do the lovely thing of paying the customs charges and such for you and then invoice you the "bill" so to speak. It is a big bleeder tho, surprised it didn't get checked. I am also hoping that it wont have any VAT on it, as HLJ listed all the goodies inside as "books or magazines"... fingers crossed.

Thank you raven_mk3_18 :)

So over the Christmas/new year I got a few hours in the shed. Not much mind, I managed to make the GM up. I bloody hate making the legs... dont know why, I just hate it. I will hopefully get around to restarting this soon.

I am going with the Tallgeese's mohawk for the cardigan. Gotta make the Quel yet...

I finally managed to get some time in the shed after finishing my Firestorm Aramada fleet... yes I am a war gamer now... shoot me please!

24165223140_774b4ea71b_b.jpg

Very basic paint job done on these buggers. I drew my first game and won the second... think he was going easy on me. So like I said, I got some free time to have a look at the GM's. First of all tho, new additions! This little guy I wont on ebay for the tidy sum of £5, I already have the Banshee Norn to make, but I only wanted the shield/booster/gun and other bits that might be handy.

24351012462_8bc554cee9_b.jpg

The beam magnum might get used, I love the shield. Might use this as a base for another kitbash, dunno yet. The Banshee's neck is broken, thus she will not hold her head up (dont ask!)

24163724250_46b179c017_b.jpg

Back of the Banshee, this is the booster/shield/mega particle cannon I was talking about, this is the bit I really wanted. Not sure how to use this yet, but I will somehow! It wont stay that horrible yellow colour for long if/when I do use it..

24351005982_3624350d0e_b.jpg

This is the Quel all made up and in it's entirety. You can see the Gundam Mk.II style torso, the Hazel's head missing the antenna (the V), the feet/legs are from the Hazel/Mk.II and the arms are also. The Quel is pretty much a Gundam, just a test bed for one. For some weird reason, the hands fail to grip the gun. I have no idea why and really infuriated me...

24459331785_4bf5b55861_b.jpg

Just playing around again with the GM, this one has the Cardigans arms/shoulder pads, the Mk.II's torso and backpack and the rest is the GM. I added the two blades packs to this one to create the swords on the arms (they swing round) and the two daggers on the hip skirt plates. The daggers I will modify to make them lower. The shoulder pads I will change as those pointy bits look silly but I was really hoping to keep the beam sabres on the top. I really like them. I believe I have some spare Hazel pads somewhere to fit on there. Also because I am using the MK.II torso and pack I will be able to fit the G-Defenser on the back without any issues what-so-ever. I might have to revisit these ideas, maybe put the Mk.II torso on the Cardigan or the below...

Here is the one that I think Hunter Rose will love...

Look at the gun on that bleeder!!! I have modified a gun to carry the SU-100 barrell, I wasn't impressed really. The barrell is alot smaller than I thought it would be. The massive gatling is from a Try Fighters pack, you can put it on a tripod but the backpack looks so much cooler! The box on the left shoulder is an missile pack, I am thinking of droppng that and somehow putting an ammo can there for the gatling.

From the other side, just so you can appreciate how big this gun is! I will try to get some more pictures of it infront of the cardigan. I also used the gatling arm packs from the Arms Pack too. They dont look as silly as the Cardigans ones, altho they came from it's pack... I dunno... That drum on the top of the gatling I will turn into a sensor of some kind (in Gundam lore, radar is useless). Gonna see what other bits I can steal.

As always, input is always greatly recieved. :)

Kind Regards,

Dazz
