Pagey
I am building the Petlyakov Pe-2 kit (which is lovely by the way) and have found that the clear parts are rather peculiar. They seem to be made of a different material (a lot more flexible) and don't like to be dipped in Klear (I dipped the canopy and the klear didn't adher to it in large areas and I had to wash it off). Has anyone else had issues with Zvezda clear parts?
Caution Wake Turbulence
I had an issue with the windscreen on the IL-62, which was very thin and had sort of rolled up on itself a bit. A quick email to The Hobby Company sorted the issue very quickly in my case. The plastic does seem more flexible (almost a little rubbery even) than most clear parts. Mike
Weird. Have you cleaned the canopy with some IPA or something to ensure it's not just mould release causing the Klear to bead off? I'm all for canopies that aren't brittle though.... what's the clarity like?
Pagey
Thanks Both. Definitely agree with the description of the material being rubbery. Clarity is ok, not crystal clear as we have come to expect with new mouldings. On the glass parts of the clear sections at close inspection there seems to be a cross hatching (bit like if you look closely at cloth material). Pagey
will try cleaning the parts first and try a Klear dip again, will test on a smaller part than the canopy this time!! Edited November 25, 2015 by Pagey
Pagey
I washed the parts in Soapy water, let them dry then tried dipping in Klear again. Worked fine, should have tried that before posting this thread. sorry for wasting everyones time
Tripehound
You actually saved me time - have this very day bought my 1st kit of theirs (the Il-2) and would never have thought to wash the clear parts before 'clearing', but I will now! Pagey
I know, never thought to wash clear parts before. Hopefully this will help some people.
