Debbie Sue, F-104C Starfighter, Udorn RTAFB

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Hope you don`t mind seeing some pic`s of my latest effort: Hasegawas 1/48 F-104C Starfighter

Xnm9ARN.jpg

Completed to represent `Debbie Sue` of the 8th TFW, based at Udorn, Thailand 1966/67

wWCLsIt.jpg

Made a few additions to the base kit, in the form of some RHAWS sensors ( I don`t know what it means )

Kly09Hc.jpg

fitted to the nose and rear fuselage and a small blade antenna just aft of the forward sensor

f6D0Gac.jpg

Otherwise it`s what`s in the box apart from seat belts, rear view mirrors and decals: which are from Iliad Design `Starfighters in Combat` sheet

VAmkZYm.jpg

the instructions unfortunately show the camo` pattern on the wings incorrectly so I had to do a last minute repaint.

Whilst I`m here I thought I`d show some pic`s of an earlier attempt at the same kit

QLGNo24.jpg

Which isn`t really a `nam bird but `Hey, while I`ve got the stuff out`

01It8sw.jpg

Kit decals but I left the candy stripes and comets off ( it must have looked like this at some point )

pLLim8K.jpg

And above both together

Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking

Cheers Russ

cool model!

some weapons would be nice, no? as beeing throm the Vietnam theater of ops, s clean plane with only wingtip tanks is not too realistic, no`? nevermind!

Cheers Exdraken. they were mostly used as escorts and carried nothing under the wings, later towards the end of the 2nd deployment they were used for ground attack and carried two bombs. Most of the photo`s I looked at on the `International F-104 Society` website at both Udorn and Danang show them without underwing stores. So that`s how I did it.

Thanks to all for looking and kind comments.

cheers!

I stand corrected! quite a dire escort though.... so Hasegawa is right in not including anything but wingtanks!

interestingly the NMF schemed ones at Da Nang carried sidewinders at the wingtips!
