Troy Smith
really neat bit of work Calum, saw the WIP and the info has really paid off. The thing I'd like to is this Beau photographed against a simple base/background, as that can really set a model off. A while back I made some comments to Russ C, he'd done some cracking builds, but were shot outside on a garden table, the background was trees, but the white table jarred, I nudged him a bit and now he posts on some simple but very effective back drops for example http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234987280-counter-insurgency-spitfire-indochina-1947/ here's a table one for comparison http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234951533-f4u-1-birdcage-corsair-jolly-rogers/ I think he uses travel posters for the backgrounds, but even a bit of grass matting and some out of focus greenery would set if off.. some period colour shots here https://www.flickr.com/search/?w=8270787@N07&q=beaufighter I think this is real? Maybe a very well done model, no details in the link https://www.flickr.com/photos/8270787@N07/2525592162 shot yours outside like this and it'll look real! there are 3 shots of Banff strike wing Mosquito's here https://www.flickr.com/search/?w=8270787@N07&q=mosquito which may help. cheers T
Basilisk
Nice work Calum. I had a look at your WIP. You mentioned that you used Tamiya gloss to seal the decals which gave you a very gloss surface. What gloss was it you used? Cheers, Peter

Plus the Beau is pretty large so I'd need a decent sized base.
Basilisk
HI Peter, it was X22, thinned with Lacquer thinners Thanks Calum. I read that X22 is meant to be added to flat paint to make it gloss. But apparently it works on its own. I have to try it thinned with lacquer. Cheers, Peter

I thought I recognised the piccies, I was the one that queried 489sqn on your FB page, sometimes hard to keep track of where I've seen stuff. Farmerboy
That's a real beaut beau, you should be really proud of yourself, not many can achieve a finish like that, insperational!!!
CheshireGap
Excellent finish that really captures the effect of faded paint that you see so often in contemporary photos but is so very hard to reproduce - this is as good as anyone could hope to get.
