roymattblack
Well, this old scrap half-shell from my earlier 1/8 C Type project has been staring at me from my scrap pile of C Type, D Type and Ferrari bits in the garage for the past year.I decided it was time to either clear the junk pile, or do something with some of the bits. I'm not going to build a complete car. ('Edit' - well, now I am...) It's going to be a grubby older car that's having work done on it. Hence - no bonnet, no drivers door, one seat out, engine exposed, up on axle-stands - no wheels, etc etc..I might even build a small garage diorama/base to put it in. I want this one for me, so I can see what's inside a C Type, now that my original C Type (and D Type) have left home. I'm currently working on the big DBR1, so this will just tick along slowly alongside. I'm going to base the model on the car in the lower pic. Oh well - here we go again... Roy. shood23
This sounds like a very interesting thread, I will be keeping a close eye to see how you progress with this. Shaun
vontrips
I like it! Personally not a dio fan though. I'd like to see it with all the grubby bits on a really clean studio background, like the above photo?!
roymattblack
I think I might have gone overboard on the 'dio' bit. I just might make a base that looks like an oily old concrete floor, with a few tools, wheels etc leaning against the car.Nothing too dramatic. I might not even 'dio'it at all.The old grubby car is the interesting bit for me. Roy. Edited October 26, 2015 by roymattblack
shood23
Not to put ideas in but maybe a crash or barn find dio may suit the shape the body is in at the moment. Shaun
kpnuts
As always will follow a Roy F build personally I love models in dio's (even small ones) I always think it sets a scene (not that anything you build needs a scene) but I do think it adds to a model. roymattblack
Thanks you guys. It doesn't look like much but I've spent an age trimming and fettling the old shell. I had forgotten how bad it was - hence, I never used it originally. Also, I had chopped bits off it to make my other C Type so I've had to rebuild the missing bits. Lots of surface filler to add, tons more sanding and eventually it will get some paint. Roy. Edited October 28, 2015 by roymattblack
roymattblack
I've done a tad more on the C Type shell. Filled, sanded, smoothed, fixed, repaired and primed... It will be Old English white before long but as I've already mentioned, I'm building this alongside (in-between) the DBR1. ...and, heavens forbid, I've made a tentative start on a 1/8 E Type Cunningham lightweight roadster..... (groan...) Roy. Edited November 2, 2015 by roymattblack

roymattblack
...When I've made a few more roadster parts I'll post some pics. No point starting a thread on it, as it really is a bit of a way down the line. I just want to get the roadster hard top and rear deck sorted as I'll be using a Revell lower shell and bonnet - nothing much else really... This is the actual car I'll be modelling: Roy. roymattblack
I'm waiting for some brass section to arrive to continue the DBR1, so the Jag is having a bit done. More filler, sanding, priming, filler, sanding, primer...... etc. Just about ready for a top coat. I've cast the engine bits I need and started to build up the lump. I've gone with the gold cylinder head as later C Types (and the one I'm working from) had the E Type head.Earlier cars had red cylinder heads and a few were silver - even blue... Roy. Mpfiend
Very nice progress Roy, The engine castings look very nice and sharp. Keith.
roymattblack
A bit more progress on the Big C (part 2)... The body now has a final top coat of Old English white. I'm not going to clear coat it as I don't want it looking modern-gloss. The paint has been drying a few days now and I'll give it a polish later on. Roy. roymattblack
A bit on the C Type..... Engine moving forwards. Chassis next. All busy, busy here... Several things on the go at once so not a lot of time for updates I'm afraid.
roymattblack
As a break from the 250 GTO I've decided it's time to get this one underway again. I've had to cast a new set of engine parts as the engine I had started for this one was used in another project. I'm now a bit undecided as to whether to continue this as a kind of 'half car' in the process of being worked on - no bonnet, door, only one seat, wheels off and on axle stands - or just go the whole way and build a full car. We'll see. Roy.
Pouln
Ahh nice that you are back on to this one, Roy. Interested to see in what it will turn out. I like your earlier idea of a dio (sort of).
brooker
I bet Roy groans, every time he tops up his bank balance, from another sold model too - just joking Roy!! Brooker
Tzulscha
I like the idea of a dio. A bit shiny for a barn find now though isn't it? A grubby little garage with bits spread all about while the car gets puttered back together strikes my fancy.
roymattblack
I've done a bit more on the engine. After some further research I found that almost all the C Types had a red cylinder head. Later ones were a pale duck egg green and the E Types had the gold heads. Parts have been cleaned up and painted and assembly started. On we go. Roy. roymattblack
Well... I'm back here again. The 250 GTO has been complete for about 20 hours and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms already. Time to do more on the C Type. Yes, this one is a 'fill-in' model for me. When I have nothing else on the go, I do a bit more here. I'm awaiting more 'pulls' from the Lister bodywork, so for now the Jag it is. Some flooring, firewall and framework to come. Roy.
