Dunter1969
I bought this kit quite cheaply off of eBay. I also have Retro SAS decals from Nazca. I've never worked with these decals before, but looking at them, they look very matt, so I think a coat of Kleer will be needed. Anyway although a relatively simple build, I'm going in for another knee op this week, so it will be a bit off and on. Anyway hope you like.
Dunter1969
The moulds from this kit have a lot of excess on them, as a matter of course when snipping the various bits of the kit off I leave a tiny section of the sprue attached as I find it easy to file this down rather than having to fill more. A lot of detail in such a small kit. Anyway I bought these files recently which are great. All the excess filed off the fuselage. Dunter1969
As on my Dreamliner build I prefer the windows filled in also as I'm using an aftermarket decal kit, I found even with the best of decal kits these don't fit 100%. I find the best way is to put some tape over the window section on the outside and put filler in the inside. This means I'll not need as much filler on the outside hopefully keeping some most of the details. Please excuse my mucle big hands small parts way of added filler, I'll sand some of this off, before attaching the fuselage together. It's also not on as thick as it looks Edited October 25, 2015 by Dunter1969
Dunter1969
This shows how much excess are on some parts. A before and after. As suggested elsewhere I'm going to try and add the undercarriage in the final stages of the build in order to stop me snapping them off, which I'm bound to do on numerous occasions .
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Nice start I have a couple of sets of those files too! They work well and are not very expensive.
MikeW
Dang - seems each and every time I peruse Britmodeller, I add something to my shopping list. Those files look great. Always thought I would build this exact scheme, but have never got around to it, so am watching with interest. Cheers, Mike
Dunter1969
The files I think were about £5 off eBay, I bought them whilst I was doing the Virgin build, they are a brilliant tool.
Tomjw
Looks interesting. Think I'll join you for the ride... Cheers, Tom.
Dunter1969
Took the masking tape off, not to bad a result still some filler needed, but not that much, I'm just trying to keep most of the panel lines which are a nice part of this kit.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
I got my files from a local hardware chain. When I fix up filling like this, I run some tape above and below the window line to 'contain' the putty and sanding damage.

Dunter1969
Decided to give scribing a go for the first time, the top is before and the bottom afterwards. I may have been a wee bit heavy handed but I think by the time the paints is on it along with the acrylic gloss it should be ok. I've left the doors as they will be covered by a decal. Dunter1969
Due to my operation on my knee during the week I haven't done much to the plane, other than finish scribing the body. Not to bad for my first attempt. Joined it together, it fitted not to badly with only a couple of areas that will need some work.
Dunter1969
I then started on the wings, quite a lot of extra material to get rid of and smooth out.
Dunter1969
The top of the wing section all smoothed and scribed. The first time I've encountered this with this kit, is the amount of extra plastic this is part of the wing section, a lot of filing was required here. Dunter1969
The wing sections together. My question is both wings have the 3 main what I would call pillions under the wings, between these are a number of smaller ones, I think the smaller ones need to come off but not to sure any ideas. Caution Wake Turbulence
Yes, the smaller fairings should be removed. They are for the double-slotted flaps on the A321. Also the panel lines need to be filled (the ones that roughly bisect the smaller fairings). Cheers, Andrew Edit: a couple of photos that hopefully show the differences: A321: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Lufthansa/Airbus-A321-131/0641910/L/ You can see the secondary flap that forms the trailing edge of most of the main flap and the smaller fairings that house the flap mechanism. The small gap between the main flap and secondary flap forms the second 'slot', hence the term 'double-slotted'. The gap between the main part of the wing and the main flap being the first slot. Dunter1969
Cheers Andrew I think I see what you mean about the panel lines that need to be filled. I didn't realise there was such a difference. Edited November 1, 2015 by Dunter1969

Dunter1969
Cheers just trying not to get impatient with it as I've got limited mobility at the moment, and also full of Tramadol.
Dunter1969
Well still not very mobile so just plodding along with this one. After sanding down the joins on the fuselage some of the details weren't that great. Added some plasticard to build it up, I then filed it to shape.
Dunter1969
Also cut, sanded and filled the extra pillons off.
Dunter1969
Then I added the undercarriage and extra sharklets on the fuselage. Other than a couple of bits and pieces that need a light sanding, it's all ready for paint.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Nice work D, those 'sharklets' on the fuselage are blade antennas
Dunter1969
Did some more today, put the white on, I used Tamiya Acrylic paint this time, not to bad, but I think I'll stick to Halfords Appliance white in the future.
