wyverns4
Oooo! I remember these, (yup back in 197something ). Looking forward to this Does Airfix still have these, or have they been sold off? I think they might have been disposed of but the old grey matter, (see above), refuses to give anything away. Christian exiled to africa.
stuartp
Now available from Dapol. Worth looking for Airfix originals on Ebay though as they tend to have more styrene and less recycled pop bottle in the plastic.
dpm1did1
The 040 Saddle Tank was sold to Dapol and is currently available as the BR Pug. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/357881-dapol-c026-br-pug Other than the plastic colour and a bag as opposed to box, they seem to be identical. Little difference in price between new and pre-owned, Fleabay or Antics, Airfix or Dapol. May get the odd lucky find on fleabay but otherwise it seems £7-8 is what they go for regardless of original or source. dpm1did1
Strangly the decals don't match the instructions. However as I found neither in the interwebby I shall have free reign without the need to be super-accurate.
dpm1did1
As noted the front cab wall and firebox is missing so I quickly mocked one up The shelf may not be 100% for this class but it appears there is huge variation and it was present in at least a couple of wither this or an equivalent. One of a few details added to make it less 'flat', all of which are based on reality but not always confirmed for a Pug Edited October 17, 2015 by dpm1did1
rayprit
Your kit has the wrong transfers - those are to the "Prairie"....................Think perhaps the original collector may have put them in a folder and returned the wrong ones to the kit on selling this item
dpm1did1
Your kit has the wrong transfers - those are to the "Prairie"....................Think perhaps the original collector may have put them in a folder and returned the wrong ones to the kit on selling this item I did suspect it was the case. Doesn't make much difference as I won't be using them. Indeed I will be following the 99% accuracy rule aka "...near enough for government work..." by keeping it unmarked and not aiming at a reproduction of a particular engine. dpm1did1
A couple more pix of the homemade cab front: Once the rear wall is on and it's painted mostly black little detail will be visible, however there's a couple of bits I can add colour ro so it won't be a black-hole. dpm1did1
Basic build complete ...now doe the fiddly bit, wheels, connectors, and the tiny pins... Edited October 17, 2015 by dpm1did1
dpm1did1
As expected the internal detail isn't exactly highly visible at the coal face once it's buttoned up. I've seen pix of shunters with the back wall removed but unsure if a Pug would have recieved such a mod in service. I want mine to have a 'lived in' look and these appear to be more or less factory standard cabs.
dpm1did1
Pretty much completed already. I prefered the toned down 'working life' look to a more 'working museum' shine Other than replacing the missing wall and firebox it's pretty OOB. Added a light at each end and a bit of plastic rod to lessen the flatness of a few bits, but nothing major.
'V'
You can get the Dapol version from ehattons.com for £6.19, probably £2 P&P Cheap enough to have some fun. 'V'
