Revell 1/35 Jagdtiger

Hi all, another Jagdtiger!

The Revell kit is a re-box of a Dragon kit, without any PE. I've added the Eduard PE to it, mainly for the engine grills & tow cable attachments.

I bought this on eBay & the previous owner had already bought an RB Models turned aluminium barrel which was rather nice :)

So firstly, here's the built model prior to priming. The dark parts are the Eduard bits. I won't be using everything, and some parts will be added once the basecoat is done.

I've already done the running gear & tracks, so I'll show them in detail as the build progresses.

Thanks to the rain stopping, I've been able to get the primer on before heading out.

I know there's a lot of fancy stuff out there, including the new gear from Badger Styrznzlgdzz or whatever it's called!

I haven't used that, but I've tried Vallejo, Tamiya & Mr Surfacer. But the one I keep coming back to is from Poundland

The obvious disadvantage is that it's a rattle can, but spraying outside helps & no need to prep & clean the airbrush.

Why do I use it? It's very economical; can be handled without rubbing off in an hour; after 12 hours it's tough as old boots; even if you spray heavy, it tightens up as it dries so no detail is lost.

Busy day today, got the basecoat & 1st camo colour done.

The camo is going to be Hinterhalt-Tarnung or ambush pattern. By 1945 this was applied at the factory as a hard-edged scheme. However, knowing what a PITA it'll be masking over all that PE, I'll do it freehand & try to keep the overspray to a minimum.

The base is Humbrol enamel 103. It's a nice choice for late war German AFVs.

The green is Xtracolor X806 Olive Green. This is a match for RAL 6003.

I need to find a paint to match RAL 8017 Schokoladenbraun (chocolate brown) I might have a Tamiya colour that will do the job.

Thanks for looking in

Hi ,very nice work so far ,i got some grey primer from poundland ,tried it on a old 1/72 ju88 that i didn't bother finishing ,it went on ok ,as you said if you spray a bit on the heavy side it dries ok .

Talking of poundland have you seen those little storage boxes they sell ,you can get 8 small ones in a pack ,and 4 to 5 larger one in a pack .

On the subject of paint ,why do Tamiya and the rest sell their paint in such small amounts ?. Tamiya thinner comes in 250ml jars ,why can't they do the same for their paint.

Because they make more profit selling it in smaller pots? Just a guess. ;-)

I assume because a huge pot of paint would be more expensive and deter modellers. I mean, there aren't many companies who sell large pots of non-primer paint.

Well that's the camo done, gloss coats applied & decals added.

Next up are the washes :)

The pin washes are done - not sure if they show too well as I'm using my phone camera.

But to the Mk 1 eyeball, the difference is there. A proper pin wash really adds realistic depth & avoids the model looking like a toy.

Next up ... chipping! :) this one will be a slight departure for me, as it's going to be very beaten-up & rusty!

Got some more done - most of the weathering & chipping is done & the cannon fixed to the hull.

Just a few more things to do ; attach the pioneer tools, exhausts, tow cables, AA MG mounting .....

Blimey, more than I thought!

Thanks for looking, all C & C's welcome
