Hawker Hunter Aerobatic Team decals 1/72

Hi Everyone,

I am working on a project to build five 1/72 single seat Hunters in aerobatic team colours. Whilst I've completed the Belgian 'Diables Rouges' aircraft using Daco decals 72-45, and have decals in the stash for a 'Black Arrows' F.6 and a blue/yellow/silver 'Patroille Swisse' F.58, I would also like to complete an F.6 in 'Blue Diamonds' liverie, and an F.56 in the Indian 'Thunderbolts' liverie.

I haven't been able to locate decal sheets that would cover these, so if anyone could help with naming any sheet that includes either or both, and even a stockist, I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers

Tony

I don't know of an aftermarket sheet but one of the iterations of the Matchbox kit included Blue Diamonds markings, and no, I don't have a spare sheet kicking around.

Hi Tony, I'll have a look for the Thunderbolts/birds decals although I may have passed them onto the IPMS Aerobatic Teams SIG.

Colin

PS. I had a look in the decal stash but sadly nothing.

Thanks for your responses everyone. I think the Matchbox decals were for a Hunter T7, but I can get the serials and roundels elsewhere and use the squadron marking and flashes if I can get a viable set. An aftermarket decal sheet would be preferred though. I will pick up the Swedish Acra sheet as a backup, but I'd really prefer a more colorful aircraft if I can get the decals. That's very good information though, thanks.

I'll continue my search.

Cheers

The Matchbox kit is the only one available with 'Blue Diamonds" markings. The serial and code are in the correct 4" high size, so are minuscule in this scale. These are available on aftermarket sets fro Xtradecal/Modeldecal etc. xtradecal DID do a set for a camouflaged F6 from 92 Sqn, but the Cobra and Maple leaf badge was of a different style.

The last time I used the Matchbox decals I found them of very poor quality, with little opacity in the white striping.

Sorry I can't help with the decals Tony, but there is a group build for the Hunter here next year. It's my favourite aircraft and I am going to be modelling a Thunderbolts Hunter in 1/32. I'll probably mask the lightning flashes and spray those on. Not sure where I'll get the ret of the decals though...

Anyway, yours sounds like an awesome project, looking forward to seeing it develop. Please post some WIP's if you can,

Cheers

Hi I have a sealed blue diamonds matchbox Hunter. I am happy to open it and give the decals to you. If and God knows when I get round to building it it will probably do it in a camo scheme anyway. Pm me if your interested. Cheers

I made this one quite a few years ago......I used the roundels and fin flash from an Xtradecal sheet they were meant for 111 Sqns Black Arrows.

You can see how see through Matchbox's white stripes were!

I like it Bill. I can even mask the stripe, get the roundels, serials and tail flashes elsewhere if I can just get the squadron insignia. Can I ask what colour of blue you used ? I might even delay some of this project for that group build, there is plenty of other things on my list.

As far as I can remember Tony, it was a few years ago.....I think I used Vallejo's Model Colour 70925 Intense Blue

Toiny, I also have some of the Matchbox decals. If you want to double them up to prevent the blue showing through, as suggested by Riffraff, your welcome to them

Thanks Bill, appreciate all of your help on this subject.

Currantbunbury, I'll try to post as I go. This is probably the wrong forum for it, but this is the 'Diables Rouges' aircraft I built some years ago. I'd actually like it to have a little more sheen, I might even do that when I start this project.

I'm trying to keep my projects to no more than five aircraft, to keep them manageable and maintain my interest, so I'll do four more Hunter aerobats for this one.

Hi PhantomBigStu, thanks for your very kind offer. I've got two of them in the stash already, so I should use my own decals before accepting yours. Appreciated though.

Hi Andy, that would be terrific, I will send you a PM, thanks very much.

Cheers

Tony
