Brundledonk
This was something that I built on another forum a while back, I am up to my neck doing work on my house at the moment and unable to carry on with the current builds on my bench so I thought I would post this here (hope it's ok) I'm copying and pasting this over so some of it might not make sense but it does show how I got it all together This is what you get in the box, there is a shark cage and a diver included too, I have a really cool idea for displaying it as well, but for now I'm just going to build and paint it, as I have to figure out how to make the display work The diver figure is made out of vinyl, and very nicely detailed, but like the vinyl the wallace and gromit kit is made of it doesn't like to be sanded, so seam lines need trimming with a scalpel The body of the shark is a huge chunk of thick vinyl, the hole in the belly is for the stand, but I will be filling it in The fins and a few other of the smaller parts along with the cage are moulded in regular styrene The shark has a choice of two heads, this one is in an attacking pose __________________ Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
And this one with the mouth just slightly open, I haven't decided what one I'm going to use yet, they both need a fair bit of filling to blend the joins in so I will make up both heads , and see which one looks best I'm hoping this will be a nice easy build, there is not too many parts, and not too many paint colours to use Pete Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
I made a start in this kit today, and ran straight into a problem ! The regulator that goes into the divers mouth was missing, before I got on all fours looking for it I checked the pics of the sprues that I posted on this thread a little while ago and it's missing on those, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the box. This is the part I need shown on the top left of the drawing And this is what I've got ! Just a little bit of the hose, the round thing on the right that I thought was the regulator at first glance is in fact a lens for the divers camera It's a simple shape to scratchbuild, I just need something circular and the right size, a quick hunt in the spares box and I found this The bit at the end is perfect, a quick snip and I've got this, it just needs sanding down I sanded it to size, drilled a hole in the back and glued in a bit of wire to fix it into the divers mouth, and added a resin fitting from a top studio set for 1/12 motogp bikes Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
I drilled a hole with a micro drill in the resin And stripped the plastic from a bit of 0.6mm wire Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
And now he'll be able to breathe (well at least long enough until he ends up as lunch) I added a valve to the right hand side of the regulator And painted with a bit of modelair silver I glued a tiny bit of plastic rod to the top of the air tank, I drilled a hole in it so I had somewhere to put the hose from the regulator, and primed it white I chose to spray it yellow as it would be a good contrast against the wetsuit which will be black, and painted in the details, the black peg at the back of the tank is the fixing that holds the diver in the cage And gave it a quick blast of clear lacquer I glued the bottom jaws in both the heads and covered the seams with mr surfacer, the fins are glued to the shark, but still need blending in Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Tomjw
Excellent. Something completely different. I'll follow this with interest. Cheers, Tom
Brundledonk
Thanks Tom, definitely makes a change from planes or armour, I built this back in July last year and I'll probably ly get most of the work in progress up tonight so not long to wait until the finish Pete
Brundledonk
Back when I was building this I couldn't make up my mind which head to use This open mouth one Or this one with the closed mouth Ultimately I went with the closed mouth sculpt, it seemed to suit the pose of the body a bit better than the other one The diver was primed in grey then sprayed with zero paint rubber black And I have started painting in the details, I've gone for yellow on the straps and belts, just to liven up the scheme a bit It's a nightmare to do as the paint rubs of with handling, the vinyl is not nice ! Brundledonk
Finished off the diver, not really much I can do with him as so much is black, but the yellow details lift it a little, face is done, a bit more of a tan than I wanted though lol Shark bait here has more than a passing resemblance to Mick jagger I think lol (must be the lips) I didn't know what to do with the face mask, it looks a bit lifeless, I thought about painting it silver, but decided to have a go at painting a reflection, it's a bit cartoony, but I've never tried it before, I think a coat of gloss over the top might help I got the regulator and tank on After looking at these pics, I think the knife on his leg needs highlighting I am working on the camera now, and then I can fix it on as it looks like he's holding a hairdryer at the moment Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
Jagger has his camera now Nothing fancy done to the camera just matt black with a dry brush of grey and a bit of clear varnish on the lens Both heads filled sanded and primed Filled the seams on the tail fin with Mr surfacer and primed to check if they were ok Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
I am going to use the closed mouth head, but I am going to use the open mouth as a paint test, so I primed it in white I sprayed inside the mouth with various mixes of pinks and reds, and finished with very highly thinned clear blue around the edge Still needs the details picking out, but I'll do that after the main colours are on Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
Mixed up a grey for the base colour and lightly airbrushed it on I'm really happy with the shade, I will go over it with some darker and lighter shades, but as a test I think it went very well, I've now got to glue the other head on the body, and do a massive filling job on the join I'm really happy with the shade, I will go ver it with some darker and lighter shades, but as a test it went very well, I've now got to glue the other head on the body, and do a massive filling job on the join Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
You have to be on guard with aquatic predators in the home, I woke up this morning to find this ! First job today was to glue the head on. I used cyno to fill the gaps and then covered it in mr white putty I reckon it's going to take 2 or 3 applications, to blend this in ! It's the most filler I've ever had to use on a seam on a kit Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
While I wait for the filler to dry, I carried on with the spare head Teeth picked out I painted in the eyes and put a little bit of dark grey wash on the nose and gills Mixed a darker shade of the base colour and randomly sprayed over the body And sprayed a coat of Kleer over the top, this darkened the colour and gave a nice finish The glove is purely for safety purposes, those teeth are sharp ! Brundledonk
Sand fill, sand fill, swear, sand fill and Mr surfacer Surface isn't perfect but the skin of a great white shark is a mass of lumps, bumps and scars so I'm calling this done for the sake of my sanity A quick blast of primer, it's still wet here so looks a bit shiny at the mo ! Again it's not perfect but I think it will be ok with the colours on it I left the fins off until now to make it easier to sand the head to body join, but the "wingroot" needed a bit of surfacer Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
Overall the join is not too bad, it looks a little more obvious than it actually is because the seam doesn't have as many coats of primer as the rest due to the sanding, but after I clean the fin seams up I will be spraying it all white, so it should unify everything Everything sanded and a coat of white primer Due to my less than Stellar lighting in the mancave it doesn't look white but I promise it is ! Once this is dry I can get this thing finished Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk

Murdo
A fascinating build and I love the paintwork! I do think the closed mouth head looks much more sinister than the open one.
Brundledonk
It certainly is 'different'. I can't find any undercarriage in the box Pete A fascinating build and I love the paintwork! I do think the closed mouth head looks much more sinister than the open one. When I first got the kit I had planned on using the open mouth but a member on another forum suggested the closed one and he was right it definitely looks better on the bodyPete Ok shark painting time, I mixed a pink and sprayed inand around the mouth Then with a thinned clear red, there is a lot of artistic licence going on with this bit, some images do show some blood here, but not as much as this, but It looks cool so it's going on lol ! I tried not to let the red flow too far from the mouth area Again as I always say, if it's a bit much it can be toned down at the end if it needs it Light grey on first, I was going to try and make the effect of the surface of the water reflecting on the shark as these pictures show, but I wasn't happy with it so it got sprayed out as moved on It does look kind of ok, but I would never be able to do the effect on the diver Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
Fin tips got a touch of grey And I have started to over spray the ripple with a darker mix of grey It's starting to come to life with a bit of colour on it Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
dpm1did1
I can't find any undercarriage in the box Pete It's been a while since I've researched them but I do recall amphibious variants were rather rare, usually confined to areas around SiFi TV Stations. I suspect there will be an optional watertight hull somwehere in the box. Keep up the odd work...(not necessarily a spelling mistake!) Brundledonk
I was careful not to completely wipe out the underlying shade to try and keep some tonal variation Bit of dark grey wash in the gills More wash on the gills (exhausts ?) this side and the eyes painted black Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk

This has a stand so I guess an in flight display will be ok, doesn't look like there are any markings included either Pete
Brundledonk
A tiny bit of the wash on the nose, I don't know if you can call it weathering on a shark Teeth getting picked out in white We're gonna need a bigger bench Edited October 10, 2015 by Brundledonk
Brundledonk
Say cheese ! The diver wants to know if adrenalin is yellow, as it's leaking out of the leg of his wet suit well there we are shark done, just the cage, and stands to go !
