JG 54 Pictures

Recommended Posts

I just noticed these SA-Kuva pictures of JG54 and I know that planes were painted differently than normal Luftwaffe planes. So there might be some interest to these.

They appear to be pics of detachment Philipp of I/JG 54 at Petäjärvi airfield on the Karelian Isthmus. They were covering a German-Italian naval unit on Lake Ladoga from 1st July until October 1942. The planes were F-4:s and some pics appear in several Finnish books of Luftwaffe in Finland and Norway.

I think last picture is different thing. Caption in SA-kuva told that picture is from fighter cover of high ranking officer visiting in Finland.

Yes indeed, that last pic shows escort for Generaloberst Alfred Keller, commander of Luftflotte 1. He was inspecting the previously mentioned Einsatzstab Fähre Ost in Mensuvaara at 10 August 1942. He was travelling by a He 111 but unfortunately I can't tell its code.
