Vulcan Farewell tour - Southend viewing spot?

Hi,

I intend to see the mighty Vulcan one last time in the air, on this weekend's "farewell tour" and the closest to me would be Southend. I signed up for the VTTS newsletter but probably too late to receive the latest one with the finalised route and viewing information.

Does anyone here have more detailed information about where exactly the spots are, in particular in/around Southend?

I'd hate to go all the way there by train and then miss it behind trees and buildings...

Cheers

Jeffrey

From their newsletter this evening (6/10/15)

"National tour details being released in dedicated email tomorrow."

"We are busy adding even more locations to the tour and seeking final permissions."

"The tour routes on Saturday and Sunday, with lots of other related information, will now feature in a DEDICATED ‘NATIONAL TOUR’ NEWSLETTER EDITION. This will be sent to all our usual newsletter subscribers by 6pm tomorrow evening WEDNESDAY 7th October."

will she be anywhere near Duxford on Sunday?

I've never subscribed to the Trust's newsletter & it's too late to sign-up how, from what's already been posted.

Hi,

I imagine the same as the cold war tour, starts off at high level, working its way down to around standard display height. On armed force day (in the v force tour weekend) at cosford, the vulcan came over once or twice at moderately high altitude, weaving its way down in a large oblong spiral descent. When it got to around normal display height over the runway it did a few attempts at the "howl" with the throttles being slammed forward and then reduced back. On the 2nd to last pass she opened the throttles and climbed, doing a sharp bank over to come around for a final pass which she once again opened the throttles and climbed away, banking and levelling off at her departure altitude.

Hope that helps,

So to finally answer your question Jeffrey, it won't be flying directly over Southend, it will be over Gravesend-still close to Southend nevertheless (see Sunday tour route).

Hope we've helped :)

Thanks Sam I was hoping it would be at display height other wise it would not be worth going to see.

Wonder what they have planned for later in the month ??

Its great that she's at display height then! :D

I would presume the odd excursion, you never know-you can't blame them really for using the remaining excess funds to keep her flying for a few more events. Let's hope for a flypast of London (not that I will be there, it will be rather symbolic flying over the capital she once protected). Perhaps they're waiting for the BBMF Lanc to get back in the air (estimated-later this month)! Apart from that, Falklands, anyone? :P

Isn't Waddington's runway works complete now ? Something there maybe with the Lanc ???

Doubt it would be aloud to fly over London would be nice though maybe with the arrows !

Guy

EDIT

Apologies I was told duff information about Wadington's runway and of coarse it will be not complete until next year.

National tour my backside. Looks like the VTTS have bought a cheap map that doesn't include East Anglia, the South West, Wales, Northern Scotland and Ireland.

The same old places get to see the aircraft, while the majority of the country miss out - again.

The Police have issued this about the 558 flying in to/out of Doncaster Airport (I thought it was Robin Hood's,what happened?)

Police Supt Rollitt states: “Although I understand the passion of the supporters of the Vulcan, over the past few months as we approach its final flights, more and more spectators have turned up at events where the Vulcan has been. This has started to overwhelm local authorities and emergency services. My first priority is ensuring the safety of all road users and local communities. Doncaster airport is a small commercial airport that can accommodate its passengers, however the infrastructure around it cannot accommodate a large influx of people hoping to see the Vulcan. The Vulcan trust have worked with us to satisfy the safety issue by providing a flight timetable to ensure that members of the public will get see the final flights from other vantage points around the country.”

Joint Specialist Operations (Uniform)

I understand how frustrating it must be but I'm afraid the main consideration that I think VTTS is looking at is the fuel limits of the aircraft (funds could dictate the tours only being for two days and therefore only containing certain locations), however I'm sure there will be more excursions to the destinations you've listed in further flights that they are planning.

I'm now torn between Gravesend and North Weald. Both about the same distance from me, but while I could get to Gravesend by train I wouldn't know how to get to North Weald, and also how would I find the appropriate spot there (I don't think they'd let people onto the airfield...?). But then again, the airfield would be a definite waypoint, while Gravesend could mean anything in that general area somewhere along the Thames...

You mentioned the train, have you got a car? North Wield is just off the M11. If you're not that local, public transport to NW would be a problem and involve a few changes from trains to buses and might end with a walk. Obviously you'd have a better idea of your area, which I don't know. A good view in Gravesend, like you intimated, would be a guess. Good luck!

I can fully understand possible fuel/crew limitations, but many of the locations have had flypasts before, some very recently, while others have never seen the aircraft.

If they are planning further flights around the country they need to publicise where and when they are going as at the moment all they've done is upset a lot of their supporters.

I fully agree that they should publicise further flights, the only reason they might not be publicising them yet might be to do with them getting CAA flightplan approval or maybe they are doing it to reduce the amount of people there, as highlighted by police statements and in the last 3 or 4 newsletters.

Right, I don't have a car so it's either public transport or a hire car/club car, with the train being usually a lot cheaper for just one person.

I just wish they would be a little more specific about these viewing points...
