Muzz
I think the US Special Forces working alongside the Free Syrian Army are far more likely to be on the end of a Russian air strike than the Russian forces fighting alongside government troops being on the end of an Allied strike. Scooby
Actually, Russian national markings, titles 'VVS Rossiyi' and RF-serials were deleted for transfer/over-flight purposes only (BTW, they deployed via Georgia, Armenia, Iran and Iraq, and not 'in radar shadow of transport aircraft, like various people are babbling around). Meanwhile, Red Stars and service title have been re-applied. They are to be seen on newest photos of Su-24Ms 05 and 26 taken this afternoon - while they were not to be seen on same aircraft yesterday. That doesn't make it legal. They likely removed them as they did not have permission to fly over several countries enroute. Turkey was certainly one country they violated their airspace. It's a violation of Hague Law, Part II, Chapter 1, Article 3 states: Art. 3. A military aircraft must carry an exterior mark indicating its nationality and its military character. Art. 7. The exterior marks required by the above articles shall be affixed in such manner as to make it impossible for them to be altered during flight. They shall be as large as possible and shall be visible from above, from below and from either side. Art. 8. The exterior marks required by the regulations in force in each State shall be brought without delay to the knowledge of all the other Powers. Modifications made in time of peace in the regulations requiring exterior marks shall be brought to the knowledge of all the other Powers before being put in force. Modifications made in such regulations at the outbreak or in course of hostilities shall be brought by each Power to the knowledge of all the other Powers as soon as possible and at the latest when they are communicated to its fighting forces. All Russian fighter-bombers were flown in via Caspian Sea, Iran, and Iraq. Shorter-ranged Su-25s - which also lack IFR-capability - even made a refuelling stop in Iran, while IFR-capable types transferred to Syria accompanied by Il-78 tankers. EDIT: Ah yes, and, the last two photos posted above are showing FAB-500M-62s - namely 'dumb bombs'. I've never seen one like that before. I wonder if anybody makes it in 72nd or 48th scale? Cheers Richard.

Tom Cooper
Yup, KAB-1500KR with 24N1 gimballed semi-active laser homing seeker. So, a new variant of KAB-1500... Flankerman
Note the coloured dots that are used to align the panel the right way up. A simple but effective way of ensuring that the groundcrew orientate the panel correctly. This is in addition to the straps that attach the open panel to the airframe - so the panel is not actually separated from the airframe - giving double security. It also seems that each panel has a number..... with a corresponding number on the airframe. Also interesting to see the brand new clothing worn by the groundcrew - neat shorts and T-shirts with sun hats. Pics of the base facilities show a very modern setup - light years away from previous Russian facilities. All done to showcase Russias modern military might.
