Rickpadwick1801
Hi Everyone,PaulJ and I have both got Airfix 1/48 Lynx's to build. We have decided to do this as a buddy build. This is going to be my build of the 1/48 scale Lynx HMA.8. Here are the boxart/sprue photos.Anyway I'll be making a start on this kit tomorrow, so will post my 1st update as soon as I have made a decision about which version of the Lynx HMA.8 to build and once I have started the build itself.Cheers,Rick Edited October 21, 2015 by Rickpadwick1801

Rickpadwick1801
Hi Everyone, I've had a quick look at this kit this morning with a view to starting it today. The instructions state that there are 136 construction stages including optional stages. There are also 3 different build options for this kit : A - Counter piracy - winch & door mounted gun B - Air/Sea rescue - winch only C - Anti Surface Warfare - sea skuas / depth charges To see what is the most popular version of this kit, I have added a poll to the first post on this build thread. Let me know what option/options you think would be better. All the best, Rick Edited October 3, 2015 by Rickpadwick1801

Rickpadwick1801
Hi Everyone, Thanks for your votes. I have decided to go with the sea skua missile option which is version C. Both options that were voted on had 50% of the vote. I have made a start on this build with the drilling of the floor and painting of the cockpit components. 1st update tomorrow. F4u
Looking forward to your photos be interesting to see what it goes together like , I was thinking of doing one of these in this scale as a HMA-8 Black Cat ! Don't think you can get 1/32 scale Black Cat decals unless you rob the Revell kit unless someone knows different ? Guy
Rickpadwick1801
Stages 1-20 are complete. Lots of photos taken. So far it is going together very well (2 parts of the kit were simply pushed into position rather than glued).
Rickpadwick1801
Hi Everyone, Here are the build photos of the 1st 20 stages. I have noticed that there are a number areas that need some touch up painting (which I thought I had already taken care of but some escaped my radar)..... I am really enjoying this build so far, so much that I have actually got my Lynx AH-7 kit out and given it a wash before starting the prep work on that kit. Anyway here we go. Stage 1BC - drilling of cabin floor for rear cabin seats Stage 1C - drilling of cabin floor for version C components Stage 2A Stage 3A Stage 4 Stage 5 Stage 6 Stage 7 Stage 8 Stage 9 Stage 10 Stage 11 Stage 12 Stage 13 Stage 14 Stage 15 Stage 16 Stage 17 Stage 18 Stage 19 Stage 20 Anyway I will post more photos as I get some more progress. Excuse all of the areas need touching up, I promise they will be addressed. Cheers, Rick
Paul J
Hi Rick, you're up to the stages I reached up to midnight last night!!!
Breaker
Rick, Start testing the fit of the cabin into the fuselage halves now. The tolerances are very tight and you may find the paint & glue will have taken you outside of these and some sanding will be required. I know I had to on my build. Cheers, Simon
Paul J
Good point Breaker. The small forward lower windows on my build went in very well. Its a matter of making sure any minor flash around the openings and extremeties of ANY of the parts is cleaned up by paring sanding or whatever method one prefers.

Rickpadwick1801
Hi Rick, you're up to the stages I reached up to midnight last night!!! Hi Paul, Glad to hear you have made a start. I have spent about 2 hours on each day of the weekend on this build. I'm definitely not rushing this build. Cheers, Rick
Rickpadwick1801
Hi Everyone, I have tested the fit of the cabin in the fuselage halves and like Breaker said it is a really tight fit,but the cabin fits snugly in place. Rick
Breaker
The only other area I remember was struggling with was the front engine cover. I ended up with a gap that needed CA filling when it met the covers near the rotor mast. The decals over the tail boom rivets are a swine too!

Thanks Breaker, I will look at that part when I get some more work done on it and do some more test fitting. Cheers, Rick
