Peugeot 206 WRC Evo2 with added Pony Ride

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Whilst I'm completing Ebbro's 2CV Fourgonnette I've decided to finally finish this kit I started 2 years ago whilst I was (in theory) finishing the Subaru Legacy.

This is the kit in question:

And inside the box:

And it's contents:

The reason for me giving up on this kit was the awkward red decals of the livery not fitting the bodyshell easily and the complexity of what I wanted to achieve with the Kevlar decals and plumbing.

As can be see in the pics. I've added brake pipes and have thus far added the fuel tank breather pipe and the fuel return line. I still need to add the fuel feed line.

I also started adding the pipes for the remote reservoir dampers, however overscaled they may be lol.

I also hit a snag with the fact that I couldn't finish the plumbing until the rollcage was fully fitted making attaching them harder as well as the fact I didn't (and still don't) have any blue seatbelt material.

Progress will likely be a lot slower than that of the Escort as this is effectively an also build whilst I focus on building the 2CV.

Hi . I use electricians tape for seatbelt harnesses on my builds . Cut it into strips , then thread it through the seats and it can be easily wrapped around rollcage mounting points . I then apply the belt decals ( Sabelt , etc. ) and use silver paint for the buckles . I find threading tiny buckles too fiddly and when the body is on the belts look very effective .

That is a good tip about the insulation tape Gary.

Unfortunately I have 3 rolls of black which I brought deliberately coz they were black haha. (needed for my 1:1 car)

I was told about quilling paper as it comes in a variety of colours and you can buy it in 2mm wide strips. So no trimming required lol.

Hmm interesting. Still yet to buy a belkit model. I do prefer the looks of the polo to the fiesta. Though I'm sure I'll get multiple kits of them both. Plus the mk1 escort is a dead cert addition to the stash haha

Ok time for an update.

The 2cv fourgonnette build has stalled. Bad fitting windows chipping away the paint :badmood:

So into its box it goes for now. However this means that this build is now top priority.

I still haven't managed to sort out the seatbelt problem as Hobbycraft don't stock blue twilling paper in store and I refuse to pay postage on an item that only costs £1 lol. Will likely have to resort to ribbon but as of yet I don't have any.

So onto this update. This morning I've finished the majority of the decals for the body:

The Kevlar decals finished on the drivers footrest. (still working on the co-drivers one)

And the decals on the wheels:

Still more decaling bits and pieces to finish but I can start adding a few little bits to the interior and plumb the fuel feed line in.

I was at RallyDay yesterday at Castle Coombe circuit . There was Richard Burns Peugeot 206 WRC on his Foundation stand . It was in Marlboro colours and Tarmac spec . It looked stunning . His Championship winning Subarus were also on show .

Tonight's update isn't massive but is still progress lol

I've plumbed in the fuel feed line and painted the Banjo unions and split fittings on the brake lines.

I've also got the Kevlar decals finished on the co-driver's footrest and installed the fire extinguishers.

Well time for an update.

I feel that this build is slowing again as I near the point of really needing some seatbelt material and having a negative on my bank statement. Getting some isn't going to happen soon.

However I have made some progress. I've also taken another step back re decals again!!

I've clear coated the body:

Now the eagle eyed will probably see the silver of the body showing through around some of the more complex curves and creases. However this isn't really a concern as I have previously found that a Revell red is a good match for the decals.

This is my main concern:

21734740486_2c65cac08b_c.jpg

What happened was the decals rolled over on itself and trying to peel it back whilst the clear was still tacky didn't work and the rolled over section came away. And as can be seen its taken the top edge of the Total script with it :(

Also some bubbling occurred on the bonnet decal. Though I've managed to pop these and press them down. again the clear was slightly tacky sill.

What frustrates me is that all these decals have been on the body for 2 years and the rest that have caused no bother have been on for getting on for 2 weeks :mental:

Anyway I'm more focused on the Lancia atm and am looking at maybe a road car soon to distress from decaling lol.

So not sure when the next update will be.

I have a couple ideas floating around for this. The main one being I have another one of this same kit for the purpose of swapping the bodyshell with the Evo1 cars to create a gravel spec version. Hence having a full spare set of decals for this.

However I can't find any decals for an Evo1 gravel rally so unsure what to do atm.

Ok so update time. Unfortunately the 206 has been packed away back into its box awaiting my venture into a shop that sells ribbon in the next week or 2, so I can finish the seatbelts.

However not to worry as in the mean time this Pony has come for a ride haha

No large amounts of decals to contend. Just a simple paint and glue affair of this rather old and close to past it mold.

Saw this and couldn't resist

Though there are some clear differences between the kit and the pic. I think the main being the real car is the 5.0 v8 and the kit is the turbo 4 pot and the bonnets are different but the colour scheme is enough for me. Plus I happen to have a new can of Rover Inca yellow lying around ;)

One problem is the Hood decal in that it is catered only for a red bodied car. i.e it being black and yellow and to replicate the car in the pic it needs to be black and red. I'll have a play with that later but for now the build is racing along.

Engine mostly complete, still a couple of touch ups to do.

Soz about the blurry pics. didn't realise till I came to upload

And the body has the Inca yellow on

21323035734_ed6fed54b3_c.jpg

21955515001_9e3c57f226_c.jpg

the yellow is a lot darker than the last time I used it and I think it's down to the red of the body. 2 heavy coats of white primer and it was still pink. In fact the primer seemed to turn pink as it dried. End result a rather Orangey mustardy mustang.

Black half to come and hopefully before too long the Pony ride will be over and the 206 will once again be on the worktop.
