MECS70-B Stasis Pod

1:24 Wild House Models

Stasis-1.jpg

This kit is from the relatively new manufacturer Wild House Models. It is the first full kit from their Hostile Realm range and represents a stasis pod manufactured by the Moneta Engineering Consortium.

The Hostile Realm universe is set on earth after extraterrestrial contact in 2054 with an alien race known as Flexani. The first contact, despite initial human fears, was positive and technologies were shared, in particular the Flexani expertise in medical techniques.

The MECS70-B was the first commercial Stasis Pod using Flexani medical technology and was mainly used for crew hibernation on commercial starships making deep space exploration a reality. Used exclusively for healthy participants the MECS70-B typically consumed 0.9MW of power and is equipped with a fuel cell that can provide up to 56 hours of backup power before terminal life support failure.

The Kit

The kit comes in a top flap opening box that is slightly bigger than A5 in size and has drwaing of the pod in use along with a small photo in the bottom left corner of the completed kit.
On opening, the box is full, with parts well packed and protected in bubble wrap and zip-lock plastic bags. There are a total of 37 resin parts of which 4 are clear, a bag of 4 flexible pipes, a set of decals, instructions and a data sheet about working with resin.

The parts are very well cast with minimal clean up required and plenty of surface detail. The main body parts for the pod have a small number of casting lugs that need removing to get a close fit but nothing that a few rubs with a sanding stick cannot cope with.

The clear parts are cast resin and will need some careful clean up to remove the casting tags. 3 of the clear parts are for use with the optional lighting kit but will still need installing if the lighting kit is not being used.

Markings

The painting possibilities for this kit are numerous, brand new ready for use, in use with frosted glass, well used and weathered after many years use on a deep space star ship, the choice is yours.

The small decal sheet covers warning signs and manufactures labels all of which are well printed and aligned.

Conclusion

This is a very nice kit, well thought out and excellently cast. It would make a great centerpiece for a diorama particularly if used with some of the figures also available from Wild House Models. The optional lighting kit would also add an element of realism to the Pod.

I had a quick look in the box before it went off to Warren for review, and it was quite impressive, especially from a relatively small, new company "putting it out there" and creating their own universe :clap2:
