Eduard F6F-3 Hellcat, 1:48 scale

Recommended Posts

Hello, here are some pictures of my newest "roll out". It s Eduards very nice F6F-3 Hellcat in 1:48 scale, it s the Profi Pack kit and build right out of the box.

Started two months ago, with the intention to have a relaxing and fast build, the progress was straight forward, until i started to fight myself. The solve the home made problems took the most of the time. But it s done and i am quite satisfied with the result.

The kit decals were used for the Hellcat from the U.S.N fighter ace, Alexander Vraicu, BuNo 40467, VF-6 from the USS Intrepid.

The blue in the national insignias are quite light, so i had to alter the sea blue color to get the contrast right.

Hope you like it

Best Regards

Bernd

Hi Bernd. Hope you're keeping well. Now that is one mighty fine looking Hellcat - you certainly did more than a good job with it. Your build, painting and weathering finish look superb!

I remember building, probably a 1/72, Hellcat as a kid and was so impressed by it as an aircraft... and still am.

Well done.

Kind regards,

Stix

That looks just right, you've blended everything in into a very realistic model. Well done Sir!

The Hellcat has been a favorite of mine, seemingly not getting the credit I think the design is deserving. Your model does it justice indeed!

Thank you very much for these warm words, Stix :) The weathering and the finish took a while, at first my weathering was done in the fashion of my Eduard Fw 190 builds ( still in progress ) but it looked overdone, so i changed it, the rivets and panel lines are probably a bit wider that, on the 190s.

The worst moment was to remove the masks from the fuselage windows, some of the liquits from the weathering and the wet sanding managed to enter the windows on their inner sides, removing them and install surplus ones from an other Hellcat took also some time, along with very bad language :banghead:

The decals worked fine but the blue in the insighias is too light, so i had to alter the sea blue to have the right contrast. Carefull spraying was needed.

My first Hellcat was the Matchbox kit and i was amazed how big this aircraft was, compared with my other 1/72 WWII kits.

The Eduard Hellcats in 1/48 and 1/72 are fine kits, there will be one more on the way :)

Nice one Bernd, she sure looks grand mate.

The weathering and exhaust staining compliments your build.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Even the good lady Rose says it good.

:goodjob::goodjob::goodjob:

Simon.

Thanks for this nice compliment, Simon and best wishes to Lady Rose :)

great looking hellcat....

Thank you very much :)

:goodjob: I especially like your exhaust staining.

Thank you, for the exhaust stains i sprayed various shades of gray and brown. Its a nice contrast to the blue shades of the camo.

Hello Eric, thank you very much and yes, the F6F was probably one of the best fighter designs with a propeller bolted on ! The Hellcat is a favorite aircraft of mine and it sits currently next to my older Hasegawa -5, in the colors of Cdr. Hugh Winters, commander Airgroup 19, U.S.S Lexington.

There will be hopefully another -5 in 1/72, also an Eduard kit, in the near future.

Thank you very much, Steve :) Get yourself this kit, there is a lot of modelling fun in the box and the price sounds good.

Very nice Bernd!

Thanks for sharing this great build! :coolio:

Thank you Russel, its always a pleasure to post a new roll out.

Have some problems with my hands, that prevent me to proceed on my main project, the H.M.S Hood in 1/350. So i decided to melt down my stash of half build kits, for a while :)

Thank you Sean, weathering is often a matter of taste. Carrier based aircraft were well maintained so i kept the amount of weathering a bit down.

Or better, graded back, because the first attempt was way too much.

Brilliant work Bernd. It looks perfect to me mate! :goodjob:

Thank you Gregor, there were some moments of disbelieve, that this one ever made it through the finishing line. Especially after the remove of the fuselage window masks, only to learn, that some liquid from the wash managed to crawl under the clear parts, inside of the fuselage.

After all, i am quite satisfied with it :)
