The Paveway series of laser guided bombs have been in use since the 1960s, and through constant evolution they continue to provide the US and its NATO allies with a cost-effective precision aerial weapon system. The GBU-49, also known as the Enhanced Paveway II, is based on a 500lb bomb. It features Raytheon's Enhanced dual-mode GPS and Laser guidance system and is effectively a replacement for the laser-only GBU-12. Although visually similar to the Paveway IV used by the RAF, it is a slightly different weapon.

The quality of ordnance dished out by kit manufacturers is variable at best. Some is truly excellent, while other items bear only a passing resemblance to the real thing. Some kits include no ordnance at all. The availability of alternative sources of ordnance, such as Eduard's Brassin range, is therefore very useful to have around. The latest item from the range to hit the shelves of the model shop is this set of two GBU-49s. Each weapon is cast in resin with separate brass fore fins and resin seeker heads (of which you get a choice of two). The quality of casting is flawless and details are nice and sharp. The included sheet of decals is comprehensive and very well printed.

Conclusion

Extra ordnance is always worth grabbing, particularly so when it's as good as this. With such a wide range of potential applications, I'm sure they will sell like hot cakes. Recommended.
