Airfix 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf110, C-2

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

This is my third build for Karen at work. This time I have gone for the "enemy" and provided the BF110, before anyone asks or notices, I am not allowed to put any swastikas on the aircraft. Complete crock I think but I can live with it. I used an Eduard Zoom set for the interior and mask for the canopy, both I will be using again, but not relying on them. Oh I also had an Eduard Brassin MG15, which I also like as well and I will be using the other one that I have. I'm not too sure on the colours, but this is what Vallejo suggest and I am aware of the cock up on the right engine with the wash. I am going with an oil leak for that one :P Well here are the pictures of said aircraft.

For some weird reason, Flory Washes do not like Vallejo RLM66 (or 65 I can not remember).. it's had 4 coats of gloss over it and it still sticks and refuses to budge. Could of done better with the join line and the wash. But more things I will take with me to the next model. That 3 I've done... wow I am in danger of clearing a whole shelf of models in my man cave :P

Comments welcome :)

Kind Regards,

Dazz

Thank you kindly Knight_Flyer for the kind words. The masking was the only thing that put me off making one of these before, but I found the mask on ebay and thought "screw it" and it's worked a treat. I ripped some of the paint off when I was removing the mask, but nothing that a 10/0 brush didn't sort out. I managed to save the masking so I am hoping I can reuse it too... tight git I know. :P

Kind Regards,

Dazz

very neat, you did well to get the shark mouth decal to conform, mine wouldn't, not even cut in two. Just one small point, main wheel hubs on Luftwaffe machines were semi-gloss black, but I doubt Karen will worry about that too much, nice result!

The decal was a bugger, I will not lie. For some reason I couldn't get it to fit correctly. So I fitted it as best I could down the sides and flooded it with MicroSol. It eventually gave in and conformed but left a diamond by the 20mm's, luckily Vallejo Red is almost an exact match. Thank for the heads up on the wheel hubs. Does that go for all machines?? Because I'm building her a 109 now. Thank you for the very kind words and pointers, FalkeEins. :)

Your 110 is downright good looking! I really like it.

Re the camo colours, I dare say that they look more like RLM 72 and 73... unless it is the lighting you used for the photos.

But that does not detract at all from the quality of your work.

Great show

Thank you for the kind words, Michael. :) I've not built the Eduard version yet, but for £7 (what my mum got it for) you can't go much wrong. There's lots of details and the second scheme is an interesting one. It is worth a go. I'd say. Gotta get a night-fighter yet. :)

Once again, thank you for the pointers FalkeEins. That'll be taken over to the 109 I'm building now. :)

Jean, thank you for the very kind words. Luftwaffe rlm colours isn't my forte tbh. I've since changed from Vallejo to Gunze for paint and enjoying them. The pictures where taken outside in the sun (what little we've seen) with a DSLR... Take that as you will... The colours do look... Odd to me but I think it'll work for this purpose. :)

Kind Regards,

Dazz

Very nice work indeed! I too have made one of these, and I have to say, I too think it's a good little kit. The colours look good to me too.

Many thanks,

Val

Thank you Val! I remember watching your build thinking "I must build mine sometime soon!". Now I have :) The kit is a great little kit, cheap enough too. Thank god for the masking set tho, that would of sent me bonkers.

The right engine makes it look 'just right', so no problem there. Shame you can't add the swastikas though.

Thank you for the kind words Natter, I don't think anyone will notice it that much thankfull due to the shade of green used. I did fight the swastikas issue, but apparently they might offend someone. So I said I would build some Finish Gladiators instead :bleh: :bleh:

Kind Regards,

Dazz

I have one in the stash too with the Eduard Interior set 73388 and the mask CX277 - hope it comes out half as well as yours!

I'll be doing the Xtradecal 72118 Me 110C from ZG 76.

I also have the Airfix Me 110E and an Eduard 1/48 which I'll will put off until my modelling skills have improved.
