The missing panels are really effective Stix. Both models are coming along superbly. Great seeing them side by side :like:

Thank you Nigel - it does look better with a few missing! It did make me smile when I saw them side by side like this!

They both look fantastic, the panther looks good without any colour. I wish I had fixed the tracks before adding the upper hull, however I didn't glue the sprockets this allowed me to jiggle the tracks on, are you going to use the crewman that's standing up?

Thank you Ozzy. Yeah the Panther is a great looking shape anyway. I always try to get the tracks on before the sponsons are in place - it's far easier for the upper run - good job you left the sprockets loose! At the moment I am intending to use the standing figure although I will wait and see what he looks like when painted before actually gluing him on. My main concern with him is, because he's leaning on the turret, it may make it difficult to turn the turret. I will wait and see.

Both very nice builds Stix, a Panther with full skirts look somewhat wrong in my eyes.

And small scale AFVs are just sweet, good work !

For BerndM modelling just have a look here, mate :)

The build has seen some further progress after my last post so more soon .:captain:

Hi Bernd. Thank you very much for your comments and for the link to your thread - your ship builds are certainly looking excellent.

Nice models, I'll wait to see him with all his painting ...

Cheers Stix :D

Thank you Francis - most kind! I haven't got the paint yet but there are still some other bits and pieces I can be doing on this build over the next few days.

Looking very nice Stix I'm finding myself increasingly tempted by one of these .

Hi Jim and thank you.......and I'd say go for it - the more Panthers the better!

Nice progress on the Panther and the "pint-sized" 64 is magic too, really good

Hi Julian and thank you very much too!

I might have a bit of extra time on this over the next few days so I will see what I can get done although it is looking less likely I will be able to pick up the paint I need.

Kind regards,

Stix

I managed to get a bit of work done on this over the weekend - mostly starting to paint the camo colours. The green was was first - I'm using Humbrol's 252, RLM 82, Olivgrun Matt. It was applied by small stippling brush to try and recreate the effect of field applied camouflag:

It looks a bit stark at the moment but I'm sure it will tone down with some weathering.

I did start on the red/brown but I got a bit fed up with squiggly lines so swapped to doing some work on the tools:

They still need some weathering and final touches.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Kind regards,

Its still looking good. I'm probably a bit behind you now as two of the last four Sundays have been spent (misspent) at model shows (Huddersfield and South Cheshire). I'm almost ready to matt varnish and then I'll post some pictures.

Nice work on the cammo, it took me a while to do mine.

Thank you Ozzy. Yeah the squiggly lines get a bit much at times. I've been doing small sections over the past couple of evenings so I'm not trying to do it all in one go over the weekend.

Your camo is outstanding, well all of the build is.  I might give this brush painting a try on my newly started Tiger.

Thank you very much, that is very kind of you to say. I really enjoy painting with brushes - it's one of the reasons I'm not bothered about using an airbrush. I don't have anywhere I could use an airbrush anyway.

Camo pattern interesting, tools looks very real...

Cheers Stix

Thank you very much Francis. I still need to add some weathering to the tools but I'm going to wait and see what I decide to do with the weathering on the rest of the Panther so I can match them in.

Looking rather splendid Stix. The tools look great!! :)

Thank you very much Nigel....most kind!

As I mentioned above I have been doing a bit of work on applying the red/brown areas of the camo over the past couple of evenings and hope to get some more done this evening. I'd like to leave it so I have only got a small amount of camo to complete tomorrow morning.

Kind regards,

Stix

I just saw in the latest Tamiya model magazine that Trumpeter will be releasing a long awaited 1/16th Panther G :penguin::yahoo::penguin::yahoo::penguin:

Think you might need a bigger hairy stick for that one Stix  :D

Perhaps a household decorating paint roller might be in order if I got around to a 1/16th build! ;)..........which, to be fair, I cannot see anytime soon.

I will definitely be following your build if you decide to make a 1/16 Panther!!

Looking just great so far. Keep this bugger up and running,

/Stefan

Hi Stefan and thank you very much. Thoroughly enjoying this build so I am absolutely going to keep going until it is finished.

I did spend quite a bit of time on the build over the weekend but I just haven't had chance to post any photos yet - so here goes!

On Saturday morning I finished of adding the Humbrol 106, Matt German Camouflage Red Brown, which, like the Green, I applied with a small stippling brush to try and create the appearance of paint which has been applied by the tank crew in the field, which is what I think happened with this Panther:

32534030444_559d9ba08b_c.jpg

At the stage above I was really concerned as to how stark the contrast between the colours appeared so I quickly went onto getting the dry-brushing applied. As on my other AFV builds I used a lightened version of the base colour to tone down the camo - I'm trying to give the appearance of generally worn and dusty AFV:

33275224181_0d06753f9c_c.jpg

Next I got the few decals applied - as I usually do I cut the clear carrier film away, right to the printed design:

33247653172_4c8a1e5da6_c.jpg

33275217721_85e59d5cfe_c.jpg

33403172325_274e87aef9_c.jpg

By late on Sunday I had started adding some wear'n'tear weathering to some edges but it's difficult to see in the photos - I also did some work on some of the parts that still need to be added - so this was the state of play on Sunday afternoon:

32560501814_9f2dc2b839_c.jpg

33275227821_33e76707c8_c.jpg

33275226701_891d654f89_c.jpg

When I get chance I'm going to be adding more weathering to the main hull and turret before I start attaching all the parts - I find it's much easier to do the weathering with these separate.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Kind regards,

Stix

Looks fantastic Stix .

I really like the Camo and it just goes to show that when expertly done, brush painting is as good as an airbrush . And you have achieved a nice soft edge too most impressive sir !
