mirageiv
Hi chaps, I am wondering if anyone can give me a few pointers on how to get the super-smooth results (satin to light gloss finish) I often see people getting when they spray this. ATM even when I thin it massively or use very little air pressure it comes out like a very fine sandpaper that still requires a little micro mesh session before painting. I mixed the thing for ages to see if that was it and it still came out the same, I also used Mr.Color standard thinner. Maybe I should use the levelling thinner? I find it strange, as when I have used the aerosol version it always comes out really nice and ready for paint no problem, just hard to control for me on 1/72 kits. Any pointers or advice on this would be very helpful. Best regards David.
Duncan B
Are you using the self levelling thinners? If you want to airbrush it try decanting some of the aerosol version into an old Tamiya paint pot, let it degas overnight then use that. I must admit that I've reverted to using the aerosol version as it is so good, even on my 1/72 kits. It doesn't flood the detail the way that Tamiya's aerosol primer does. SaintsPhil
You hit the nail on the head, you need to use the leveling thinners, thin to same consistancy as you would other Mr Color paints (semi skimmed milk) and you should be away!
mirageiv
Duncan, I have the stuff in a pot atm, so I have been thinning it with the standard thinner. I changed from the aerosol as I always manage to flood the model with either the Tamiya or Surfacer aerosols, it is me not the cans! SaintsPhil-Guess I'll get myself some of those self leveling ones and give it a go! Many thanks guys, David.
kev67
I use Tamiya fine primer straight from the can and just micro mesh this down, works great for priming, but not cheap
Calum
I use normal lacquer thinners and give the primer a rub with wet 12000 mircomesh to knock the rough bits off. Often an old T shirt will do the same thing
