Citadel paints

Looking for a good aluminium and brass paint. Have tried the Humbrol metalcote aluminium (27001) and found it very grainy like a metallic finish. This type of finish is not what I need. I need a totally flat finish.

We have a war-games outlet in the town centre and wondered if the Citadel paint was any good. Tamiya and Humbrol is the only other paints available locally.

TIA

if you have a halfords near you check out the car paint section, their aluminium is very good as is many of their maker specific silver finishes

Thats one I never gave a thought to. Thanks

Citadel isn't bad (or at least it used to be Ok), be warned though, it's pricey for what you get. Last time I looked the pots only had 12ml of paint for £2.55 each, compared to Vallejo which have 17ml for £2.25 and Lifecolor which have 22ml for £2.86. Does your wargame shop not stock Vallejo? I know quite a few of them do and if so, i'd say go with Vallejo instead.

thanks

Mike

their grey primer is another one worth picking up

did forget to mention they are spray cans, but as sprays go they are very good, few others are well used on here, appliance white is the go to gloss white for most

I know all about the primers, I use them myself just that I never gave a thought to the colours.

Citadel metallics used to be some of the finest acrylic metallic paints available. I say used to because I know the range changed a while ago, don't know if the quality of the metallics is the same. The old Mithril Silver is still one of my favourite to represent the postwar RAF silver scheme

If you need a very, very good acrylic metallic, try the vallejo model air, they are fantastic. I don't rate the standard Vallejo metallics highly (look quite grainy to me) but the model air are a totaly different story and are today my metallics of choice. While they are meant for airbrushing, they can be applied with the hairy stick as well

If you can get the old Mithril Silver, Boltgun Metal and Chainmail then buy a lot of them. They spray and brush very well. Sadly the names and quality have changed recently and aren't as good but still useable.
