Sorry meant to mention that there is a model Shop in Ayr where you can relax. The proprietor is one Gabriel Gorman, his weathering is absolutely brilliant. I know he going on leave soon but if you do decide to go to his shop it is closed on a Tuesday, someone else looks after it for him on a Monday. He is normally there Wednesday to Saturday. Shop times 09:00--1430

His Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ayrshire-Model-Centre-AMC/243696425664964

Only if you have nothing else to do lol.

aircraftspotting.co.uk is always worth checking as they have info on most UK airports. Their Prestwick info is here;

http://aircraftspotting.co.uk/south-ayrshire-airports-airfields-viewing-guides.php

Unfortunately the last update date is March 2013, so all of it may not still be valid.

There's also this google map showing spotting points;

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?msa=0&ie=UTF&mid=zPaunoRc-tP8.komQGu_CzCS8

The site also records airport movements

As usual, google is your friend! B)

Prestwick can be a great place for spotting the unusual, but with periods of quiet as well. A lot of US and Canadian types use it a s a fuellings top before headinga cross the pond (or on arrival) and the RAF use it for training from time to time.

The Mound is a great location

Have a look at http://www.egpk.com

Will give you an idea of what you may get and approx timescales for arrivals.

One area to watch is at the threshold of the runway 30(?) there's a mini roundabout near the approach lights and a small road going off the roundabout towards the airfield. This affords some great views of that end of the runway but by all accounts parking a vehicle in this road/lane will attract the attention of security/police. If you can park elsewhere and walk to this point it's a far better option.

I did see an A400 at PIK recently as well so you really don't know what you could get. Was busy with mil stuff at Joint Warrior in April and am hoping might be the same in Oct for round 2!
