I looked at the Martini scheme. The faring is different around the back end as is the tank and maybe the seat fairing. I may still go with it and adapt it to suit the kit parts. I don't want to do too much surgery. I'm already lookind at moding the tail light/plate holder...

Time for an update... Been beavering away the last couple of days on sub assemblies, cleaning off mould lines and filling ejector pin mark, swing arm, engine, tank, seat support frame etc. Time for a painting session soon.

I also had a go at making the tail light look a bit more interesting. I cut some strips of reflective tape. The red one doesn't want to follow the contour of the moulding the orange looks OK. My bros Mark who is also in the build suggested drilling out the segments of the stop light cluster and adding red paint or stretch red sprue... I think it needs some Alclad chrome to add dimension/effect.

Until later.

OK, good weather today, so took the opportunity to get some painting done. Holts (nee Halfords) Primer/Filler then Duco Limo Black (SG Black) all decanted into jars and then shot through the airbrush.

Been looking at an alternative exhaust system after my bros mentioned the Zard system. I found pics of an Akrapovic system on the net (see resourses pages). Not too difficult to accomplish. Move the joint in the front section add the Lamda sensor points, springs and a couple of welds. Then the hard part! Find some Akrapovic decals...

Right I'm off to watch MotoGP qualifying . i'lltake these to whittle whilst I watch.

For multiple views of this system use the link below. If you're perturbed about sourcing the logo for the silencer what about the one embossed into the rubber sleeves for the connector springs! They also do an all polished version as opposed to the carbon details. Furthermore the joints are less pronounced so a bit more sanding needed there bro'.

Thanks for the link Mark, those are the pics I have been using. I've just revisited the site and seen the raised lettering (via the zoom option) on the spring cuffs. Ouch! I think I'll skip that part, nobodies going to see them anyway... I've taken all the kit moulded joints off and wil replace them with ali and wire.

OK, after Marks lead with the exhaust springs, I took the plunge this morning. So, .3 wire wound around a .35 twist drill shank. Cut into 5mm lengths and then the spring tensioners slipped through and the second end bent over. Two clips for each end and then fitted using CA. I removed the kit joint bands and repositioned them using champagne bottle neck foil 3mm wide and 18mm long with the ends scarf cut for a better jointline and .4mm AIZU Microm Masking tape for the new weld lines. Some Tamiya Titanium enamel should see it sorted. A bit fiddly but I couldn't rush this am, too much wine last eve!!! Tut, tut!

OK, I had a grub around in my stash yesterday afternoon. I found a Tamiya 916 kit, which has an MRM conversion to Foggy's bike. New resin wheel and these decals of which I managed to get two sets. So, I'm thinking the decision has been made for me.

Right an aftenoon with the airbrush and I've got a coat of Tamiya Silver Titanium. The Akrapovic system doesn't seen to have the usual weld discolouration, so all I have to do now is accentuate the welds with a darker shade. I added the rubber sleeves to the springs as per the ref pics.

Thanks Anfrew, they are a little fiddly but worth the effort and better than buying ready made from Japan. Soory to hear progress has been slowed, you could have changed the locks whilst the kids were away, ha, ha! Got a bit of a busy week myself, even though I'm retired. Hospital tomorrow, an X-ray for my wife and then follow up appointment at oncologist on Friday.

It is coming along great Colin but I have to say that bikes just don`t do it for me personally,....either as models or in real life! I can appreciate the modelling skill though and it is well up to your helicopter standards,

Cheers

Just a small amount of work this week. Engine painting and detailing with Flat Ali for the crankcase/cylinders and Titanium Gold for the add on parts. I found a sheet of 1mm hex PE nuts I purchased at Telford a couple of years back. They are by acompany called Voyager Model in China. I went into their website but couldn't find much info, price etc.

So using the pics, in our resource pages I added those which were missing (brass times). I'll paint them silver later.

  • 4 weeks later...

A lazy couple of weeks, chest cold, cough and no enthusiasm!!! So not much progress at all, with just over a month left onthe build, I'm going to have to pull finger...

Here are the two cans for the Akrapovic AM exhaust. The kit part on the right and the modified one to the left.

You've got a valid point there Mark, I had wondered the same. I think we should just plod on at our own pace, no point in abandoning it now not when we've got so many BM'ers hanging on our every word (STIC).
