Gnat crashes at carfest

Doesn't look good at the moment.

The press is already irresponsibly claiming 'stunt flying' of course.

Christ! That's not far from us, and Caz thinks she saw it earlier before it crashed. I really hope the reports of the pilot being ok are true

RIP, very sad.

What expert did they get for the report? does he know the history of the Red Arrows?

Aviation expert Julian Bray said the type of Gnat plane involved in the crash had been around since 1955.

He said: "They had great ideas for these little aircraft but they didn't quite make it. The RAF did use them for training purposes but never for display purposes. They went with another variant. They sold theirs on, mainly.

"The Heritage Trust has got some of these and they do these displays."

Bit of a bad run lately. A pilot I knew vaguely, Howard Cox, died last weekend. Then the Blackbushe crash. Now this. Over the years eight pilots I knew died in crashes. Another died in front of me. Three were friends.

Being a pilot sucks sometimes.

Edit: that was ten pilots. Spun in.

I flew a missing man formation over a funeral once. That was a surreal moment.

Sad times, sympathies to the pilots family. As much as its a risk they take, you just dont expect it.

And as much as Im no fan of Evans, he looks devastated. Not a nice position to be in at all.

That sucks all round. Terrible loss and shame.

The 'expert' has now corrected himself, apparently he meant that particular Gnat had never been used by the Red Arrows, not Gnats generally. Which isn't what he said of course.

Very sad.

To be fair to the chap it's very possible he has been misquoted in the rush to get copy on line. I recall more than once words carefully chosen and expressed by me in court and reported in the press in a way that made me wonder if I had been there in the first place

Condolences to his family. It's always a tragedy and a shocking loss when this happens
