Anybody used AK Interactive True Metal past to paint an aircraft?

Hi guys,

I got from AK Interactive their True Metal wax/paste (aluminium).

Did anybody use it to actually paint a whole aircraft with it? If yes, how did that go?

I so far used it to paint an 1/72 propeller which worked quite well. But I am not sure how about using it on a larger scale i.e. for painting an entire 1/72 Vampire.

TIA.

Cheers,

Michael

A few of my thoughts are here:

I would not use it on a Vampire, as they were painted silver rather than bare metal.

I used it to paint a Canberra. Airbrushed on over tamiya xf19 as a primer and buffed after. This was to test it over a whole aircraft and will also be my last. The effect is great but I was finding it rubbed off areas that were in contact with the bench. A couple of coats of aqua gloss cured that but then came masking issues. Using tamiya tape with nearly all the sticky removed by a few sticks to the skin first was still pulling up the true metal even through the aqua gloss. After 5 coats of aqua gloss this was still happening pulling up large flakes. These had to be hand painted to touch up. I'm happy with the Canberra but I will find another NMF method next time. The Canberra can be seen below.

Hi Michael ,

I used it but was mit quite happy and satisfied. So I used it on a base with Alclad 2 White Aluminium but only for some panels. Hmmmm. I prefer These Alcald stuff . Also the SNJ polishing powder. Dont know if it is still available. May be the new metalizer from AK interaktiv are good, but I didnt test These colors until today.

All the best

I've only used it for picking out individual panels towards the end of a paint job, worked well for that and suspect that's the best use for it. I've bought some of the AK Ultimate Metallic paints but haven't had a chance to try them yet.
