DaveJL
Hello all,I had this project included as part of my 'Israeli Jets' thread but think i'll kill that off and build the rest separately. So here it is, Kinetic's 1/48 F-16I Sufa. This will be marked as a machine from 119 'The Bat' Squadron.Kit:Extras:In terms of aftermarket i'll be using a Wolfpack cockpit set, Isracast correction set, Steel Beach FOD cover, Eduard RBF tags and Skunkworks Python IV missiles. I think i'll also get a set of Israeli specific 600 gallon fuel tanks.Load out will be 2x AIM-120 AMRAAM, 2x Python IV, 2x GBU-31 JDAM, 3x fuel tanks and Litening pod.Hope to build this in tandem with my Vietnamese Su-30.Dave

DaveJL
Oh A bit daft really, the Barak and Sufa kits don't come with any Israeli specific weapons/tanks.
DaveJL
Does anyone know what colour the cockpit of the Sufa is? Not sure if it's all black like other F-16 variants in IDF service. Cheers. Dave

DaveJL
Does anyone know if the Sufa is able to carry 2x JDAM's on the inner wing pylons in place of the fuel tanks?
RMCS
Careful with the canopy..its very brittle, any pressure and you will cause stress fractures
DaveJL
Careful with the canopy..its very brittle, any pressure and you will cause stress fractures I've it packed separately so should be ok. The canopy frame is even more delicate if memory serves me correctly! Anyone any ideas on the JDAM's and if they can be carried on the inner pylons? DaveJL
Made a bit of a start this afternoon. The lovely Wolfpack cockpit was prepared, ready for the details: The necessary alterations to the forward section of the fuselage were also made. Internals were made up: I didn't bother painting the intake or engine tunnel as these will be covered up by the FOD insert. Just as well as the amount of flash and sink marks in there is quite something. Also built up the ordnance: Everything is from the kit, bar the Python IV's, which are from a Skunkworks weapons set. Haven't built up the 2 wing tanks yet as i'm researching if the Sufa can carry extra JDAM's here as an option, with my preferred option being getting a set of 600 gallon tanks from another either the Kinetic Brakeet kit, or block 52+ kit. More soon. Dave
DaveJL
More done. Cockpit was painted fully, with all the switches etc 'picked' out with cocktail sticks: Once dry, this was fitted to the forward fuselage. The landing gear bay and intake trunking was added, then the fuselage was closed up: Added the drag chute housing to the lovely Isracast spine: Coming together quite quickly but from experience i know there will be a good bit of filling and sanding needed! More soon. Dave

DaveJL
More done this afternoon. Added the resin spine, slats, nose cone and various other bits and bobs. As i suspected, quite a bit of filler is needed, particularly around the nosecone. Tomorrow i'll hopefully get the tail fin added along with the exhaust and will make a start on cleaning up the filler. More soon. Dave
Breaker
Dave, I built a Tamiya F-16 aggressor and I didn't use any of the tanks from that build. Sprues can be seen here - http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=TA%2061106 Any of them of any use to you?

DaveJL
More done this afternoon. Added the CFTs, exhaust housing, tail fin, flaps and a all but 2 of the pylons: The filler was tidied up around the spine, but more was needed around the CFTs. Looks worse than it is, but the kit does have some fit issues! My biggest concern is the nose cone area. I may lose some detail here but it can't be helped. Next up is to clean up all the filler and add the rest of the lumps and bumps. More soon. Dave
DaveJL
Majority of filler has now been cleaned up and the last few lumps and bumps from the Isracast set have been added. Although i've taken no comparison shots, the resin parts are far better than the kit parts. The inaccuracies in the latter are easy to see when side by side with the resin. Here's how she looks now: Just need to clean up the nose cone and some filler around the intake and that's her ready for primer. Also waiting on a delivery from the big H, which includes a set of 600 Gallon fuel tanks. I haven't added the inner pylons just yet as they may require some surgery. More soon. logical
Looking very good there Dave. I have the Academy 32nd one in the stash. What colours are you using for the Camo? What would Tamiya's closest colours be? I was going to use Xf-23, Xf-52, xf-55 and xf-57 for main colours
DaveJL
Cheers. I use XF-57 'Buff' for the base layer of camo, XF-21 'Sky' for the green and then model master dark tan light ghost grey for the rest. Not sure what the closest in Tamiya colours would be for those, possibly lightened XF-52 for the brown and XF-19 'Sky Grey' for the undersides.
