RichardPrice
What's the best way to seal Alclad metal paints so I can mask off the painted area to do the rest of the model? I can't mask directly onto the Alclad as that just pulls the paint off. Is a gloss varnish the best approach here?
old thumper
I always do it the other way around, mask the olive drab areas etc before spraying alclad.
Tomjw
If you let the Alclad cure for a week, you can mask it without an issue. Also, by making sure the base coat it free of finger grease before applying the Alclad, you reduce the probability of peeling when removing masking tape. Hth Tom. mirageiv
I usually mask over normal Alclad colours only hours after spraying and have never had any issues. However if you want to mask over the high shine finishes you can mask the next day but when removing the tape I find a metallic colour to the bottom of the tape, with the resulting paint a little dimmer. If you leave it a week or so (chrome, polished alu etc) they become bulletproof and can be masked as much as you want with no bad effects, no paint comes off with the tape.
