B-24 Liberator late war Weapon load

HI The B-24 Liberators Used by coastal command usually carried between 8-12 250lb depth charges and late war in addition carried 1 or 2 FIDOs. Just that the Lib only had one usable bombbay the other had a fuel tank. So where would the Fido's be located? cheers Mick

Hi Scott, I have not found any 1/72 scale 250lb depth charges, But Redroomodels do a British 450lb depth charge and Attack Squadron do the US 325lb MK xvii, also MK 54 350lb in 1/72 & 1/48. Belcher Bits do 1500lb mine and 250lb d/c set in 1/48 cheers Mick

Here are some details of the 250lb depth charges as seen in the photos above:

Mk VIII

Overall dark green, ½” red band near nose, 2” light green cross-hatched band near suspension lug.

Lt - 56”

Body Lt - 38.15”

Dia - 11”

Tail Lt - 18”

A convex nose is welded onto the front, and sometimes it is fitted with a concave nose attachment. The suspension lug was at the centre of gravity. The tail has 3 equally spaced ports at the front where the tail meets the body.

Mk XI & XI*

Dark green overall, ½” red band and a coloured band indicating type of explosive painted around body in front of suspension lug.

Lt - 54.8”

Body Lt - 37’

Dia - 11’

Tail Lt 17.8”

Front dished in to prevent ricochet. The front of the tail has one large port and 2 smaller ports to give access to the fuze area. The Mk XI has one suspension lug at the c of g, the XI* has 2 lugs to fit on U.S. a/c.
