Whofan
A report in today's Sunday Telegraph of a replica spitfire having a bit of a do at Peterborough airport. I didn't know that Peterborough had an airport! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/aviation/11749376/Spitfire-pilot-makes-emergency-landing-at-Peterborough-airport-without-wheels.html
Sgt.Squarehead
Not entirely a Spitfire (thanks be to the almighty for that).....But quite dramatic nevertheless! Glad he walked away.
Nigel Bunker
Now I know what they based the Starfix Spitfire on.
HL-10
I think their pushing it calling Sibson and "airport" ! Glad for the safe outcome
SaintsPhil
That is about as far as you can stretch the truth! I flew about 15 hours worth of PPL training out of Sibson and it's little more than a (bumpy) grass strip. It's not very big either so fair play to the pilot getting it down relatively unscathed. Kallisti
What on earth is that aircraft? Looks like a Spitfire and Mustang got a bit jiggly one afternoon in the hanger... That nose looks strange...
Truro Model Builder
No damage apart from a broken propellor? And a suitably shock loaded engine no doubt. But it's the newspapers, so I'm surprised that they didn't mention that he heroically avoided crashing onto an orphanage/school/hospital/convent* (*delete as applicable). Quite a few years back a BA 747 on a transatlantic flight from Heathrow had to divert to St. Mawgan as a young girl onboard was taken very seriously ill. The newspaper report stated that the the pilot 'gunned the engines' (WTF?) and landed at the 'tiny airbase' (yes, a Master Emergency Diversion Airfield with one one of the longest runways in the country) just outside Truro (13 miles by the SAR helo that transferred her to hospital).
