Seahawk
I'm thinking that, rather than have my workdesk overwhelmed by a sea of paint tins and bottles, most of which don't get used from one decade to the next, I ought to invest in a dedicated storage cabinet for them. Preliminary thinking is for something about 3-4 ft high and say 15" x 12" with lots of shallowish drawers. It will need to take paint of all persuasions eg mainly Humbrol/Xtracolor/White Ensign tins but also Aeromaster jars, Tamiya jars (large and small), Valejo bottles, etc, etc. Anyone on here had a simliar idea and found something on offer cheaply that was just the job? BritJet
I've got two multi drawer units similar to this - Maplin link - except mine has 4 drawers rather than 3 above the bottom one. They do a smaller one which has deeper drawers - Link Mine can fit 5, at a push 6, Humbrol size tins in each of the small drawers and Alclad, Tamiya, glues, filler etc. in the other drawers. Hope this helps. Steve
RJP
I use this sort of thing, available (at least here in Canada) dirt cheap. http://www.staples.ca/en/Gracious-Living-Drawer-Tower-Organizer-5-Drawers-4-Shallow-1-Deep-/product_71144_2-CA_1_20001 This version is stackable too: http://www.staples.ca/en/Gracious-Living-Desk-Chest-4-Drawer/product_599183_2-CA_1_20001 The drawers are wide enough to store all those small tools, even full sheets of sandpaper. Best of all, there is no way for the dust to get in, no upkeep needed. Edited July 7, 2015 by RJP
colin
These look good, as put up on BM by someone I can't find the link to at the moment. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60296126/#/80296125

andym
I use one of those plastic tower draw units that lots of shops sell. HTHAndy
Black Knight
I use plastic drawer units, which bought in sets of 3 or 4 can be assembled into multi-storey blocks. Problem I found tho is I got a good set from BnQ and when I went to get more some time later that type were discontinued. I've assembled some units using drawer units from £1 shops, but they don't hold tall containers, eg Vallejo, nor very many low tins/jars
Seahawk
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. Keep 'em coming! To Britjet: I have something just like that as my spares box. Afraid however that for my paints I need something rather more industrial scale: there are a lot of them! Good price though. To RJP: couldn't get the link to open (seemed to require me to enter a Canadian postcocde). However I found these on the Staples UK website that are something like I had in mind, for the Humbrol/Xtracolor/White Ensign tins at least: http://www.staples.co.uk/filing-cabinets/cbs/372933.html?keywords=372933&promoCode==200200555&ajx=1 http://www.staples.co.uk/filing-cabinets/cbs/380027.html?promoCode=400600999&Effort_Code=WW&Find_Number=380027 Not quite so keen on the UK prices though, which are not dirt cheap: was hoping something similar but much cheaper might be available from the likes of B+Q or Lidl. To Colin, Bea13583 and Azureglo: I penetrated deep into the suphurous pit known as Ikea to examine these in the flesh. Excellent price but the depth of the drawers means that with Humbrol tins at least half of each drawer 's volume would be wasted. But could very well end up getting one to take my taller jars and bottles - if I can psych myself up to facing Ikea again. BTW how deep are the drawers (clearance height) on that one please? Thanks again to everyone for contributing.
Terrain Safe
Have to say I use an old CD tower unit for most of my paints. Plenty of room and I can see all the tops easily and also a small tower drawer unit for my old enamels. Now if I could stop buying so much.... Terrain Safe
I have just bought my wife this:http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/really-useful-8-drawer-storage-tower/604123-1000 Looks really nice and the ideal height of drawer for many paint pots. As I'm in the process of turning the dining room into a library, I would have some room to put this in the mancave. Very tempted!

Seahawk
How deep are the drawers internally, Anil? And one drawer will hold 84 Aeromaster paints (actually a few more if you don't like tidy rows).
azureglo
How deep are the drawers internally, Anil? Enquiring minds and all that Also, do those bloody guitars follow you everywhere? Hey Mike I think this may help for those who don't want to measure every pot of paint they have, the Mr Color are the same size as Tamiya acrylics and the Xtracolor are the same size as Humbrol.enamel And Mike, happiness is being never more than 10 feet from a guitar...
