British Army Colours

Good Morning,

I have just taken delivery of the Dragon Conquerer Mk2. This is my first AFV kit which seems very easy to build, i would have hoped for a metal main armament, and the tracks although they look well detailed remind my of the rubber bands of my youth. ( i am now 60 and returning to the hobby) I believe that the paint in service during the 60's was a gloss dark green called Bronze Green.

1, is this correct?

2, Who produces the colour?

Probably been discussed before, but i couldn't find it.

Regards Graham. ( new boy in town ).

When I get round to the trio of brit tanks in my stash, centurion, conqueror and tortoise, I'll be looking to buy this set http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/verde-bronze-uk/family/17/129

Hopefully by the time I get to them the conqueror and tortoise may have some aftermarket addons to go with them.

For Deep Bronze Green I use Humbrol 75 or Xtracolor 814 and then a coat of Gloss varnish. Also to be noted, when not on exercise all Conquerors where kept to a high standard of cleanliness..........we used to polish them up with a mixture of petrol and oil and wipe reasonably dry with cotton waste

see

http://www.mafva.net/other%20pages/starmer%20camo.htm

Deep Bronze Green No. 24 Mix: Humbrol 2 + 33 + Revell 84 in ration 6:1:4. or Revell 65 + black in ratio 10:1 approx., Do not exceed this amount of black.

DBG 24 was used pre war, then post war. Mike Starmer is a member here as well so hopefully he'll add any new information on this

Tamiya Acrylic

Deep Bronze Green is mixed by 8pts XF5 green + 5pts XF62 olive drab = Old dark colour. You need a satin varnish over this for the depth of colour.

Apparently Tamiya changed the colour of XF62, so this may not be a good mix now, hence hoping Mike will add any new information.

The Xtracrylix colours is not a good match according to Mike, and he does not mention the Xtracolor, which I think maybe the same,

While hunting for information on this, it seems that Humbrol changed the colour of H 75.

Gents,

Thank you for the information, I must admit having served in the Royal Artillery from 1970 to 1985, I only ever saw the Conquerer as a gate guardian at places like the vehicle depot at Ludgershall. I was still aware of the era of "See the World and sweep it".

I have decided to go with the Vallejo paint set as it seems to answer all the requirements.

I would also like to thank Troy for the link to MAFVA re camouflage colours.

Regards Graham.
