activexp
I felt like a change from big bikes and fancied something on 4 wheels. This F1 car fits the bill nicely. Progress so far covers steps 1 to 8 out of 43. Tamiya seem to have thought of everything with this kit including a decent crosshead screwdriver with magnetised tip. Makes handling the tiny screws so much easier. More to follow soon..........
suggy69
Looking good so far. Have this in my stash so watching with interest
activexp
Progress temporarily suspended as my cat refuses to let me open the box. She says I should give her more attention and spend less time fiddling with silly little pieces of plastic.
logical
I attempted this many moons ago. Bought it from my then local model shop which was going bump. Didn't have an airbrush and had to resort to brush painting. Needless to say it looked terrible watching this with interest.

No airbrush either Will have to resort to rattle cans for the larger areas and a lot of masking. I don't have all the colours listed in the instructions so I'm not aiming for total accuracy. If it looks half decent I'll be happy
logical
Annoy the purists and paint it like a 90's Jordan 😋
activexp
Annoy the purists and paint it like a 90's Jordan Yes! I've got a large spray can of yellow gloss. That'll do nicely
activexp
Work has resumed on this build after tempting the cat off the box with a tasty treat Rear brake discs The paint job looks less messy to the naked eye, honest! This cover steps 9 to 11.
Hugh Jampton
Great build so far, just restarted a 1/20 FW13b I primed up years ago, I also have to resort to the rattle can the yellow I had bought for a revell R23 is a Halfords 'Rover - Inca Yellow, in my opinion it came out a bit to dark but did lighten after a couple of coats of varnish and if I'm not mistaken the yellow did darken with the FW14 and camel sponsorship. I decided not to use the blue decals and would spray, I used Hycotes Voltzwagen, Jazz Blue, I bought in a local car spares shop was probably a bit too dark and to thick but saying that It hasn't come out too bad. activexp
Looks excellent John I have invested in a can of Tamiya TS-44 Brilliant Blue to use as required but otherwise I'll rely on the decals. As for the yellow, it's cheap Kobra from Amazon and is probably a little lighter than the specified TS-34 Camel Yellow but I think it's close enough. activexp
No matter how careful I try to be, I always have at least one mishap with my builds. When I fitted the clear plastic cover for the rev counter/display, it cracked A minor issue but niggling nevertheless. I found that the slots in the front of the nose for the steering links were a bit tight to allow free movement and required enlarging slightly. The steering column is in contact with the brake pedal which is a bit odd as everything is mounted correctly. Luckily it doesn't impede the working of the steering. The engine is more or less finished apart from exhausts etc and completes steps 12 to 19
imster
looking good and taking shape mate One thing, are you sure the steering wheel is supposed to be like that? to me it looks upside down?
activexp
Oops you're right. Not much I can do about now, if I correct it the decals will be upside down. Blast! Another senior moment
Gary29
Personally, I'd lose the decal and correct the wheel position, looking great so far though.

activexp
Moving on to the seat harness which is made up from peel-off self-adhesive strips and small foam pads. A little fiddly to do but turned out OK. Later I noticed that it had started to disassemble itself due to the extremely hot weather softening the adhesive It's in the fridge at the moment

activexp
A little more progress.....seat installed, front brakes and suspension. The harness is staying together with the help of PVA glue. This completes steps 20 to 25.

activexp
The two colour front suspension cover in place. I wasn't too confident about my masking effort on this part but it turned out acceptable. Left side radiator duct with electronics modules.
activexp
Today's update: Radiator ducts fitted and the metal foil firewall. i dispensed with the green throttle cable which can be seen in post #13 as it got in the way and will add it later when the engine is mounted. This completes steps 26 to 28. Edited July 8, 2015 by activexp

activexp
Moving on to the exhausts. Each side is made up from 7 parts and looked a little daunting at first but they went together without any issues. While waiting for glue and paint to dry on other parts I thought I'd tackle the body cowling, a major masking job. There's a little bleed-through which I hope will be hidden later with decals.
