roymattblack
Well - you can't sit about, can you... This one is next, except mine will be number 5 - the Le Mans winner. The body is already in progress, and I've accumulated a lot of the engine parts over the past 6 months. Onward and upwards.... Roy.
Codger
As always, your choice of subject matter to scratch build is impeccable. As will be this project... Errr-those wheels have me stumped already. Anything in the Pocher warehouse resemble them?? Edited June 19, 2015 by Codger
roymattblack
The temptation now (after the Citroen) is to weather it - but somehow, a 'museum piece' like this should be pristine... Any thoughts, anyone??? Roy.
S5 modeller
Looking forward to this one, roy. Will this involve the same engine as the db5?
roymattblack
The DB5 was a later development of the engine so there will be similarities - but a LOT of differences... Two camshaft driven distributors - Weber carbs - different cam covers, coils, brake sevo's... All good fun. Roy.
Codger
Either vintage raced or museum pristine. Unusual for me, I vote pristine.
vontrips
I agree with Codger...can't bare to see one of these puppies with race patina! Dare I ask, what are you using for dimensional data?
imster
After seeing a few of your other builds I will be looking forward to this one!! And I vote pristine!!
roymattblack
I agree with Codger...can't bare to see one of these puppies with race patina! Dare I ask, what are you using for dimensional data? I have a few friends in the historic motors business and have plans for the 'original' DBR1. Also, there's tons of info on the web. Getting prepared... rmcclure
Really looking forward to seeing this one unfold. It seems like I'm in the minority, voting for a used finish. Racing cars are only ever designed and built to race, never with a thought to posterity and I always think this is how these things look best. I love to see an old car looking as though it's lived a life - especially a racing car. Every patch of patinated paintwork tells a story - I'm not sure a glossy finish does the same! Cheers, Roger
Codger
Is there room for you to sleep in that house or do you sleep in the Jag? Huge plastic all over that house............
vontrips
Nice project Roy! I have a 1/8th Porsche RS60 that would be a perfect stablemate for it! Alas, yet another of my half finished builds!
Rizzo
Hi Roy, that's the blueprint I had looked at myself- my advice is to avoid using it. The back end in particular isn't at all accurate, and looks more DRB2 than DBR1 This was taken from a scan of an original car, so might be useful to get the contours right: http://www.finesportscars.com/finesportscars_i2/cur_dbr1_cadcam.jpg Btw, the car in your first post (XSK 497) is the LeMans winner, but in it's original form it looked like this: http://image.motortrend.com/f/wot/video-aston-martin-cc100-speedster-from-sketch-to-show-car-369509/59370139/1959-aston-martin-dbr1-right-side-11.jpg Amazingly that car is still raced, despite being worth over 20 million! HOUSTON
Roy, SHE IS GORGEOUS... I vote Pristine .. you always turn out such STUNNING vehicles and they always look PERFECT . IMMACULATE. I LOVE it. KUDOS...
roymattblack
Many thanks for that info. As it happens, I'm not using those drawings for anything other than general info. I have other drawings that I'm not allowed to copy, or post in the web - even in a photo like the one I've posted above... As soon as I've got some parts to show, I'll get some pics uploaded. Roy. toms111s
I agree with Rogers comments and think it would look great as though it had just competed at Le Mans
roymattblack
I'm still undecided about the finish... Currently making a body 'sandwich' buck if you know what I mean. It will be used for overall scaling and contours. Pics shortly. Roy.

vontrips
We need pics! What materials are you using for the buck?
roymattblack
The 'sandwich' part is made of architects modelling board - a bit like a cross between thick card and thin MDF. It cuts easily with a craft knife but is very strong when assembled into 'something'. The sandwich buck is then covered with 'something' - and then my vac-forming friend works more magic. It's a brilliantly simple way of getting a first shell - he would go potty if I pass on his 'secrets'. The first pull gets the filler/smoothing treatment, then a further buck is made. The final shells come from that. Sorry if it sounds a bit vague, but my friend is very protective about how he makes things as he does a lot of work for major companies. I can post pics of the 'sandwich' buck, but that's it... First shells 'hopefully' early next week. Roy.
roymattblack
Anyone for lunch??? I've made the first sandwiches. Lateral ones next, then put them together. Roy.
