Lex77
Hi all, I'm thinking of taking a subscription on one of the above. Not sure what is the difference between the two. Can anyone help me in my choice? Thanks!
Graham Boak
Why not buy one of each? Then you can make a judgement based on what you think is important as opposed to other people's preferences. Or better still, get both for three months so you aren't excessively influenced by what may be an unrepresentative issue.
dwh
As they are magazines in their own right, they offer different aspects of modelling and aviation reference, sometimes the two will coincide that they have complimentary info in the same month, they are both worth getting. I have each of these from first issues, and do not regret it.
Lex77
The problem is they are not very easy to buy in the Netherlands. It will be a subscription for a year so subscribing to both will be a lot at the same time ;-).
FalkeEins
SAMI has more reviews, more build articles and is more 'current'. 'MA' has more historical and 'real' aircraft features. I tend to browse them both on the news stand and don't prefer one over the other. 'MA' published my two part feature on 'wilde Sau und Moskito Jagd' in June/July last year. Tony O' Toole always has great articles in 'MA' although with their recent change of editor that might not be the case in the future...
dwh
I subscribe to mine over the telephone, you can do it for 6 months at a time, so subscribing to the two magazines with a 10% discount costs £36.00.
tonyot
Model Aircraft Monthly seems to concentrate on real aeroplanes with a smattering of modelling while Model Airplane and SAMI deal mostly with models. MA tends to have more recent releases featured within a small number of articles and most are quite good quality while SAMI maybe has more content including a decent news section but the content quality can vary between excellent and a bit iffy in places. SAMI has more reviews, more build articles and is more 'current'. 'MA' has more historical and 'real' aircraft features. Cheers for your comments about my articles,......your articles weren`t exactly shabby either! Since the change of editor I appear to be out of favour at MAM as my ongoing series of Ventura articles seems to have been terminated! The latest article in the series is about SAAF Ventura`s based in Italy (which has never been covered anywhere before!) but an editorial decision meant tat this was cut down into three or four `bite sized' parts and only the first part of this had been published when the changeover took place. Despite being advertised as following on the next month the remaining parts have simply been dropped and never appeared! I also had a follow on article about early Ventura variants based in South Africa which has also `vanished' and I`ve also sent a Hurricane article in too, so we`ll see what happens. Cheers Tony
