„BISMARCK“ – German’s battleship 1941 – 1/200 by Trumpeter, Pontos, …

*** UPDATE ***

Everything masked and the white stripes and the wrong waves at bow/stern airbrushed.

During the white painting the worst case happend... I did not mask everything... and then it happend. I had some white overspray on the red hull, the black stripe around the ship, and the grey.... not everywhere, but partially....

Means lot of correction work to be done later. .... wow :(

Ok... Let's go on..... Then everything masked new again (and better this time) and the black stripes airbrushed (Tamiya Navy black).

During this step of painting I already repaired the red part of the hull... and the grey parts ... some little masking and covering, new spraying......

Now it is looking as following .....

Next step .... masking the upper and lower part of the hull once again to correct the black waterline stripe partly.....

And masking the black/white stripes and correcting the buttom lines of these stripes in the waterline which is not 100% accurate.

Then - when everything is 100% as it should be, then clear coat as base of the weathering.

Thanks a lot! Today afternoon I will make some new pics! In the meantime, the painting is repaired and the first dry transfers are added on the hull... next will be some future on it before we go to the weathering :)

The next step was an airbrush layer with Pledge Future to save the painting before the weathering beginns....

The weathering is made with a thinned oil-color washing in black, which was wished from bottom to top with a cloth.

The water noses on the portholes was made with a small dot of oil color, faded with the rest of the oil colors on the hull.

**** UPDATE ****

A layer of matt clear coat was sprayed over the hull to give it it's final shape.

Micro Kristal Klear was used for adding the glasses in the portholes. MKK dried clear and shiny and looks like glass when dry.

The next step will be the mounting of the wooden deck... which will be huge fun I think. Then the details on the decks follow as well as the black stripes on the bottom around each gun socket.

*** UPDATE ***

The wooden deck is installed... in consists of 5 pieces (one large for the bow and stern, one for each side and one for the center part from left to right side). Once these were glued on the plastic deck, I added a washing in light grey oil colors before spraying the red parts of the markings on the deck. The "Hakenkreuz" is added as a decal from Blue Ridge Models, and censored on these pictures as these are uploaded via German site). A layer of clear coat matt on the deck follows, as well as also a light weathering of the markings.

The first add on parts for the main deck followed... Each added with several etched parts from the Pontos set, some completely built new. ALso some Resin parts added from CMK...... some more to come..... some of the skylights are open, some are closed. The same way I will go for the other skylights on the deck too. All these parts will be painted separately before mounting ....

And the ship on the later display.... testfitted ....

And last but not least ... the propellers are aded ...

Continuing to be a great build.

Q: Why blank out the bow Swastika?

It is part of the ship, representative of the era and a reminder of the villainous intent with which this ship was built.

I have hosted the pics via German provider..... there (and everywhere in Germany) it is illegal to show any Nazi-signs ...... :( No matter if it is historically correct or not ...

Duh! I never considered that little issue. It's an awkward situation to be sure. Apologies for drawing attention to it.

Several add on parts on the maindeck were installed. Several parts made fully new with PE parts and brass, as well as resin components. Then painted and added on the maindeck, then washed with black oil colors .....

The first main part of the superstructure.... all details removed .... sanded.... then all parts added with PE parts new ... lot of "funny" work :) Small stuff... very small stuff :)
