imster
So to begin! The box shot with all the extra goodies: I couldnt find the original Charge/Renown version so settled for this one instead. The upgrade parts are from SMS (Scale Modelsport), Studio 27 and Hobby Design, with CF decals by SMS In terms of the upgrade sets, I found the SMS ones has great detail for the brakes, and some other tiny details which make a difference when you tart up the engine bay (like the throttle pulleys). The Studio 27 PE set has good wing parts and mesh for intakes etc. The Hobby Design has a huge amount of other parts such as a few cockpit details, the front wheel covers, templates for the dunlop logo for the tyres, etc. If I could only choose 1 PE set then I would probably go for the Hobby Design as it gives a huge amount of options for extra details. The least useful looking one seems to be the Studio 27 set. I have decided to do a fair bit of detailing in the engine bay, when you build the kit oob the engine area looks pretty bare: So I will add lots of wiring and tubes and see what else can be done with it Finally a huge shout out to Scale Motorsports, when I received the SMS PE set there were a couple of parts missing: So I sent an email out to them to see how much it would be to get the parts replaced, they replied back saying it will be free of charge just send us your address details! What a great bunch of guys there! A little while later and voila! THANKS A BUNCH SCALE MOTORSPORTS!!!!

imster
First off I made the 'top shelf' which is what the throttle pulleys and the ingnition leads sit on: I cut off the moulded parts to make the shelf flat and plain, then I used CF decal on it. The throttle pulleys are PE parts from the SMS set which were built as well: The engine block itself was painted Alclad Magnesium (dark part) and Aldclad Aluminium (light part), and the last part was painted Alclad Pale Burnt Metal (the gold part), I then did a little wash across the whole engine block. Apologies for some of the poor quality pics, they were taken on my mobile phone Next up was the brakes, I used the SMS set mixed with Studio 27 drilled disks. It was painted with Alclad Steel for the disks and Alclad Pale Gold for the calipers And finally with decals on: Edited June 2, 2015 by imster

imster
Next I built one of the wheels from the Top Studio PE wheel set, I would suggest to anyone building this kit to invest in these wheels, they really look nice and will set off the model perfectly: At this point I mocked it all up to test fitment and get a general idea of wiring and plumbing, etc Edited June 2, 2015 by imster

Very nice will definitely be watching Just to put in aswell I just took a quick look on ebay and the charge version of this kit is going for almost £100 Shaun Yeah mate the Charge/Renown version is a collectors item, but its exactly the same as the one I am using bar the decals and colour of the body before primer etc. There are a few LM kits which are going for crazy money on ebay like the Sauber C9 and the Jaguar XJR-9LM, I managed to get very lucky and find both kits for $50 each! Oh my word. I have the Renown Mazda and those two as loft insulation... should I put them in the bank? Also a Texaco Sierra Cosworth, all bought at list price at the time, maybe having no time and space to build for 15 years has an upside?
shood23
Nice to know about the sauber and the jag, I have 2 jags (one with a decal set for the xjr12) and a sauber in the stash. It's just not in my nature to save these kits even if in the long run it loses money they just look so good when built. Also I have just noticed the front wheels they look amazingly good Shaun
A1C3
Hello Imster, Great job so far, the level of detail and quality of finish is excellent. The older Mazda w4nkels sound well nice, shame the RX-8 sounds like a wet biscuit... Some of you guys are very lucky, you can almost name your price with those Tamiya Group C, Ford Escort/Sierra kits .

Also a Texaco Sierra Cosworth, all bought at list price at the time, maybe having no time and space to build for 15 years has an upside? Nice one mate! Yes you could sell them all for a pretty penny but if it were me I'd keep them and eventually build them, afterall isnt that what our hobby is about? Then again if I knew I wouldnt ever pick up modelling again then why not sell them for a tidy sum Nice to know about the sauber and the jag, I have 2 jags (one with a decal set for the xjr12) and a sauber in the stash. imster
So next up was more plumbing and wiring in the engine bay area: After that I began the interior using SMS CF decals. From what I have seen on my reference pics it looks as though SMS have the pattern wrong for the interior but I carried on with it as it would be a big waste of money not to use the decals. The dashboard was then cleaned up and drilled for the various switches and toggles. The seat was a real long job as the original seat come with the harness all moulded in the plastic which you can just simply paint but I sanded the whole thing down till it was smooth and then did the PE versions which look alot better. Its a pity that the interior wll be dificult to truly appreciate as the models doors will stay shut and all you will be able to do is look through the glass to see interior details: Then I decided to finish the rest of the Top Studio rims and the cover for the fronts which are part of the Hobby Design PE set: Next up was the side pods, a light wash was done on the radiator which really brought out the texture, the carbon fibre work on the other side pod was part of the SMS CF decal set: And finally cockpit and engine mated!! It was tricky because of the extra wiring that was done but with a little patience it went together extremely well! Hope you all like it so far! Superb work - looking forward to the next installment Roger Hey Roger, thanks for the comment mate I would love to add working doors but I havent yet mastered how to do them so I will probably try it on a "junk" kit to master the technique before doing it on my proper models Wow that is the mutts nuts those wheels covers don't look like they were easy to do Shaun Thanks Shaun, yeah the wheel covers arent the easiest but once you get a feel for doing them it gets pretty straightforward, the pita part is lining the slats all straight!
