dawkuk
Hiya, lads. Two weeks ago I decided to have a go at one of the Group Builds. It ends with the end of May. I just realised that I will not manage to finish my Panzer in that time. Too bad. Therefore I also decided to move all works here and continue with no rush and proper attention. The model is a Tamiya's never-too-old Panzer II F/G. Lovely model. I added an Eduard's PE set, metal barrel's and few other things. Have a look at what I've got so far: The box... Hull... Not many details. It's a great model if you want to start building AFV models. Mine will be upgraded... ...with this PE set. Lot's of little things... And the gun barrels. They are so lovely First... filling holes... ...and making new ones. Also sanpapered fenders. The lower hull and wheels. PE fenders in place... ...and other details. Meanwhile i starter with a turret. Next step was adding more and more PE details. And I put the primer on lower hull. More PE's detailing. I am not going to use the whole set. Some details will remain plastic, as - in my opinion - using PE will not make huge difference, so there's not really a point. But I am using most of'em. That's how it looks so far. The model itself it's not bad when it comes to look, but PE does make whole difference. Enjoy. Soon more to come. Dawid.

PlaStix
It's good you're carrying on with this - and I shall follow with interest but it is a shame you won't get it finished in time for the end of the APGB - it would have been good to have had four of these in the Gallery.
AndyC
I agree - the PE makes a huge difference to this kit and I'm glad I used it on mine (that does not detract from the excellent efforts elsewhere that didn't!)

dawkuk
Thanks for the support, lads. AndyC - yeah the model itself is structured enough to be a good looking miniature without adding PE set. But doing this does add a lot to it. Today I'll post some more pics.
dawkuk
Back with some more pictures. Just few more details. Fenders getting more and more loaded. "Cage" for jerry cans. Buckles on... And barrels. And some more hooks. I realised that one of the buckles is missing. It seemed to be impossible to find but I did it! That is it, lads. Enjoy. Dawid.
AndyC
That jerry can cage is a bugger to fold without making it look wobbly (especially if all you're using is a pair of long nosed pliers and tweezers). Lucky you found the clip - I lost one and had to fashion another from scrap etch. Looking at those replacement barrels - I'd go for those next time - they look really good

SaintsPhil
This kit seems to be on a bit of a renascence on britmodeller! These builds are making me quite keen to get one myself now!! The etch and those barrels bring it right up to date.
dawkuk
Hi, boys. Looks like I'm done with assembling. Here's how it looks. I did turret's extension and put the primer on. Right fender. Left one. I've spent several hours on this tool box. I managed to lost one of the buckles. It's so tiny it's nowhere to be found. Eduard should actually think about putting some extra parts on their sprues. It's my first time to use PE parts on this scale. There it is. Whole thing. Now I see the tool boxes are a little skewed. OK, time to bring on the paints. Enjoy Dawid
Hamden
Coming together - nicely looking forward to seeing this in paint Roger
dawkuk
Right. Rolling out the airbrush. But first - the primer. I like the structure of this tank. It's really nice to look at. I'll try not to ruin in. OK. For the painting I will be using AK's Dunkelgrau Modulation Set. It's a six-jars set. First on is a Shadow paint, so i put it on the lower hull and in some hidden areas. My first mistake was to glueing wheels. Now it's much harder. Five steps more... Enjoy Dawid Edited June 11, 2015 by dawkuk
robw_uk
very nice work - the PE does make a big difference. This was my first kit back building armour so always like to see others tackling it (and much better than I did ;-))
dawkuk
Thanks Rob, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I had a little mishap on the subject. I got AK's Dunkelgrau Modulation Set for painting but the paints were awfully badly mixed. I had to remove them. I put whole model in acrylic remover which was done succesfully. But it also dissolved CA glue which means that all PE parts had gone off. Quite annoying I had to put it back together from base one. Obviously few parts were lost in the prosess. Yesterday I've put the primer on.
dawkuk
Hiya lads. I managed to get past the problems and move on with the build. I put on the colours. I tried the modulation. It's my first time with that technique, but it looks OK for me. I hope it does tor you, too. Enjoy. Dawid

ytareh
It's so cheap ( tenner?) you'd HAVE to ! Sure it comes with a commander and set of Afrika Korps figures that would cost half that !I have also got this kit on the go right now AND I've also stripped the paint after having a change of heart on a 'fantasy' /Valkyria project . While crude compared with modern 1/35 tanks costing 2-4 times the price it's a terrific 1/35 kit for 1/72 money .Just be sure to fill , sand and ' box in ' the gaping holes ! I'm doing mine in a Winter white wash over grey finish .
dawkuk
Thanks for support, lads. Here's a little progress. I decided to make some highlits around edges. I didn't do it with airbrush. Instead I tried with old drybrushing technique. Have a look:
dawkuk
Right - i'm back with some works pushed forward First i put Gloss Varnish (Tamiya) on whole model. Then, of course, the decals. I helped myself with MicsoSet and MicroSol fluids, which made the work easy. Then there was another coat of gloss varnish. The overall look went into a little dark. Next step (well, two steps) was filter and oils. First it was AK Interactive's Blue Filter for Panzer Grey. I wanted to add some more tones to the model, so i brusherd on oil paints: titanium white, medium yellow and phthalo blue. The modulation effect i did in the first place was quite subtle, which form this point of view i take as mistake, cause all that filtering made it even more subtle - even invisible. Well, something to remember for the future projects. Enjot.

mixup_1
Fantastic mate!! You should be well chuffed with this. Seeing the work and effort put in has really paid off. PE extras really brought it to life. Thanks for sharing
dawkuk
Hey, boys. I got some update and progress on my PZ II. I alson changed a bit the way i make pictures. First I put some rust on muffler and fenders. After that i did AK Interactive's wash. I was generous with it. It will be toned down by next steps of weathering. Wash was apllied on every bolt, hole, etc.. From above. The rust tones on fenders. I tried to be really random with them to avoid simetrics. I will put some dust over it. More detailed look. And the back. Next steps. Few more scratches and streaking effect Enjoy Dawid
