Nearlymen
Hi, I picked up today one of the new Airfix 1/48 Hurricanes and rather good it is too, Airfix just get better and better with their recent releases, but something caught my attention ! In the instructions the pilot figure is wearing a pair of modern square rimmed glasses and looks nothing like the actual moulded pilot figure, this got me thinking ! Is this an inside joke at Airfix and the instructions depict a member of staff or similar ! Love to know if it was because that's the type of thing I'd do if it was me ! Anyone in the know ? Cheers Clive
mhaselden
Airfix has "previous" for including images of their staff members in the instructions.
Silver Fox
They have done the same thing on the 1/48th scale Gnat T.
Spookytooth
Yes , is it an inside joke, the man who draws out the destructions, has added faces from the Airfix team. Simon.
Seahawk
Probably a clever ruse to establish once and for all the truth or otherwise of the well-known fact that real men never look at the instructions.
Nearlymen
I like that ! It appeals to my sense of humour and....I checked the Gnat instructions, lo and behold ! Cheers chaps for the quick replies ! Clive
Flankerman
I visited the Zvezda factory in Moscow in 2013 - one of the CAD designers showed me a model tank figure where they had used the designers face on the model.... Great bunch of guys - with a good sense of hunour. Ken
The original Kit Builder
This is also evident on the box art for the new ground crew figures.

Paul J
Quite a few other Airfix aircraft kits have the same faces in the instruction sheets. two slightly different in their 1/72 Tiger Moth for example.
Flankerman
Must be a sort of modelling equivalent of the computer programmers 'Easter Egg' Ken
Truro Model Builder
Well, keep this under your hats, but I hear on the grapevine that Airfix are looking to issue a 1/12th scale Trevor Snowden kit next year . Apparently Eduard are already interested in aftermarket PE covering his glasses and a slide rule. But you didn't hear it from me .

Al well and good, but will the slide rule be poseable, with graduations?
bobmig
Hmmm... maybe I should include my cat on one of my decal instruction sheets? I'll have to think about this.
