Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Mortimer, we're back in business!!! Finally managed to track down a set of Microscale 48-117 today. So - it's a break from Meteors, and back to gloss sea blue "SeaSabres" with parrots on their shoulders!! Ahaaaaa Jim lad Jonners
Andrew D Jolly Rogers guy
Oh, this is nice! And the FJ-3 is more than a SeaSabre; that would be the -2 IMO the -3 is pure Naval beauty, sheer beauty! And I never appreciated that one bit until I had to do my own as part of the Jolly Rogers history (VF-61) Can't wait to see this one done!
Jon Kunac-Tabinor
last night, to stop me falling asleep while England "played" I rebuilt the fin - it was looking wrong and i couldn't figure out why until I re-looked at a decent A3 print of a side view of an FJ3. It was still to short and sat too far forward. Sometimes putting these big conversions on hold while you wait to find something has much merit!! As a result it now looks better (pics to come) Jonners

Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Now that you mention it, yeah, I think you're right.... Yep - heres the result - though it may be hard too see the "shape" given the Heinz 57 nature of all the work and filling! LOL Jonners
Andrew D Jolly Rogers guy
Oh, definitely, easy to see the improvement. Glad you caught that, and the fix looks sweet.
Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Time for a coat of Mr Surfacer - so I can see what more needs to be done. Plenty it seems!! But I'm getting there Jonners
gingerbob
Oh, so glad- now I don't have to keep feeling that I ought to just send you my copy of the sheet! I have to say that in the pics my eye thought, "Wow, that tail looks tall!" but I haven't compared it to anything, so I'm not really making accusations, just conversation. bob

Well mostly - it may just be a " tincy wincy bit" tall, but in a departure from my normal stance on accuracy, I've done it so "it looks right to me"!!! The other problem is Im starting to think the canopy is a bit tall too.... But GSB hides a lot of "maybes" LOL Jonners - about to depart for a few days in Rome - so bidding you Ciao amici for now
Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Back form Rome ( short precis of trip: Bloody marvellous!) Back to the Fury - much re-scribing today, plus battling with some more of the Esci Blue Delaminating Plastic (EBDP from now on). Some old panel lines to fill still, but I couldn't resist a bit of a Blue-Tak mock up ( to check shape & sit of course!! LOL) Notice the USN GBCC in the rear of some pictures (that's Giant Black Crash Cushion) Jonners, thinking he may just have an FJ-3 on his hands finally!

Andrew D Jolly Rogers guy
Love it! Yep, when the FJ-3 takes form, you know you've got something rare and special.
Jon Kunac-Tabinor
More fiddling around today - the cockpit sills needed refining, and the fit of the canopy checking. I'm pretty happy with this all now, so after a re-scribe of the panel lines and a final prime, I foresee my future being of a Gloss Sea Blue nature.... Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Thanks to google books I found a copy of the FJ-3 pilot notes, so used it to fashion reasonable representation of the instrument panel. The seat, rear canopy coaming and rear cockpit underneath glory hole all had a coat of puce green... which will need to be toned down with some weathering!! Getting there. Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Afternoon!! Decided i need to add a few more details - so wing tip lights have been added: And the main wheel bays have been revamped: Detail is imagineered as pics of FJ3 bays are rare. But I've based it a very wee, wee bit on the FJ-4 - ie No central circular depressions (a la F-86). It'll do, and is better than nothing. Right off to learn to ride a bike now ( yeah, don't laugh - I've never mastered it, so figured it was time!!!) Wish me luck Jonners
Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Detailing the wing slats - the carrier barrier grab "mini" fences are added The eagle eyed will note the model has had a coat of GSB now too. ) And the windscreen fairing has been refined a little Jonners
