Graham Boak
Oh for a railway layout with that much space - and the time to make it! These Russian photos were taken using the method of three identical b+w photos, but with different filters.

These Russian photos were taken using the method of three identical b+w photos, but with different filters. Yes Graham you're right, they are the works of Prokudin Gorskii, there are a few railway related topics among the over 2000 glass slides. Thanks guys, I could spend a whole evening on viewing them ... so fascinating especially if you consider we know this era only from B/W Here are some more: http://www.loc.gov/pictures/search/?q=LOT%2010334&fi=number&op=PHRASE&va=exact&co!=coll&sg=true&st=gallery

Flankerman
Whilst it isn't my area of interest, during an aviation visit to Moscow in 2009 we visited the railway museum at Rizhskaya - where I took a load of photos..... I just spotted this thread - so I thought you might like to see them.... The rest of the photos are here. Ken

Graham Boak
The bridge-building is particularly fascinating. The ship that has brought supplies, the large building being put up nearby - the urge to scan left and right is almost irresistible.

I could almost endlessly scan too There is another view on the same scene albeit in this case the slides were not so well aligned: If anyone wants to try a better alignment here's the link to the particular frame, it has a button to the individual B/W glass plates ... http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/prk2000002340/
