Shackleton taxy run planned - and you could be co-pilot!

Hi all,

I know there's already a topic running on our Shackleton at Coventry, and normally I post updates in there but this month we have something a bit more interesting going on.

We've started a Kickstarter project - basically a crowdfunding attempt - to help raise funding for NDT and structural inspections, and the Trustees have come up with some great rewards for backers of the project.

Smaller rewards include taking the co-pilots seat during a run-up of the engines, and engraved Griffon pistons. The biggest and best reward is the offer of taking the co-pilots seat during a taxy run of the aircraft this summer.... as far as we're aware there's nowhere else in the world the public can get their hands on the throttles of an Avro 4-engined heavy, and nowhere you will get chance to taxy the aircraft from one of the best seats in the beast!

Less than 2 weeks to go and so far people have pledged over £8,000 towards Avro Shackleton WR963's NDT work. We really need everyone's help in these last few days to reach the £12,000 mark - even if its just £1 it makes all the difference. There's still a Michael Rondot print, a Griffon piston and two co-pilot places on run-ups up for grabs; and if you really want to push things to the limit, a chance to take the co-pilots seat during a taxy run.

Yes, we know Kickstarter pledging is a little effort as the platform is a little clunky, but believe us its worth doing. The end result will be one massive step closer to a flying Shackleton!
