Braz CFM56 engines

Recommended Posts

Do you guys have any info on these? I just noticed that Braz models came out with two new sets of CFM56 resin engines for the Revell 737 kits.

I have three 737NG's on the bench right now. I corrected the Revell engines for one of them but the other two still need new ones. I think my modified engines look fine, but correcting them was a real PITA. I do not wish to repeat the process twice more.

I know that AA has a beautiful set of correct CFM's but they are quite pricey. Do you think the Braz one worth a try?

Thanks in advance.

I have a set on a B736 which I'm currently decalling and hope to have in RFI in a couple of weeks.

Don't hesitate. The BraZ engines are excellent and worth every penny. They are also designed for the Revell kit which the AA engines may not be (I've never seen a set so i can't be sure). The BraZ engines are actually a better fit to the wings than the kit engines, not that that's saying a great deal. I didn't bother with the optional photo-etch fan blades but I imagine they'd make a good product even better.

That's great news, thank you for the input Dave!

I wasn't looking forward to the task of fixing two more pairs of Revell engines. Now I can finish all my NG's without any trouble.

I'm also building a 736. I plan to finish it in SAS colors. Are you building an SAS bird too?

A question from someone who has only one airliner kit in the stash - which version of the CFM is on the 737-800? I see that BraZ has two versions available - is this airline dependent or model dependent?

I'm not a Boeing expert but both versions can be found on the 737-800 or any other member of the 737NG series. The CFM-56-7B is by far the more common while the -7BE (E = evolution) is the newest version which came into service in 2011. The main external difference is the hot section which is noticeably shorter on the -7BE.

In this picture the -7BE is at the top and the -7B below:

Here's some further reading:

Perhaps somebody more knowledgable than me can tell us which airlines are now using the -7BE?

No. Mine is Flyglobespan. Unless I screw up it should be in RFI in a few weeks.

That's a nice livery, I'm looking forrward to see it in RFI.

I know that Turkish and El Al 739's use the -7BE. Probably the best way to decide which one you need is to look at reference photos of the aircraft you want to build.
